My First Post and some Amateur Questions
My First Post and some Amateur Questions
Hi, my name's Jason...I've been ghosting for a while, reading everyone's posts. And since these questions don’t seem to have been covered (that I've seen)...I figured I'd make it my first post.
Over the summer I bought a "2004-2006 Ford F-150 G-Force Power Hood", a stupid name I guess...but it looks good. So, I got it painted and put on...but the front edges curve up and away from the headlights. For now I have a temporary solution: headlight covers.
My problem is that I want the new Harley headlights...but that will put me back to my original problem: the strange gap between the headlights and the hood. I'll go ahead and freely admit that I'm an amateur, after making fun of my dad for so long about his truck…I guess I got the bug in retaliation.
Do I have the hood too high up? Also, the hood wants to shake just a bit at high speeds 80-90…though I would never go that fast…it was a slip…any way to fix it or should I not even be worrying...like I said...it's rare for me to go past 80?
I’m also considering a Ford tonneau cover…I’d like to keep it looking stock but have that high end performance you know? How are they put in? Any comments about how they hold up?
And my final question, there have been a lot of topics about the brakes on these trucks…but it seems like everyone is in disagreement. I just want the brake dust (storm) to end…at least for a week after it’s been washed! Any suggestions? I don’t have any need for extremely high end brakes, just something that isn’t as…soft I guess…
Thanks!

I can help a little maybe on the brake dust problem. I just replaced my front pads with a top quality Wagner semi-metallic pad. The originals are semi-metallic but probably cheapos. I have almost no dust now. I used to have to clean the front wheels every 3 or 4 days. The front and rear both collect more road dust than brake dust now. Many on here have gone to ceramic pads and seem to like them. Do a search on ceramic brake pads. You should get a lot of info to read.

Hi Jason, and welcome to F150online.com!
I will leave the other stuff to other people here, but I would like to chime in with your tonneau cover question. Many people here, including myself, have, love, and recommend the Undercover. You can pull up dozens of threads re: the Undercover by simply doing a search.
I have had the UnderCover on for about four weeks now and absolutely love it! It matches my black truck, is relatively light (58 lbs.) and is easily removed -- and is extremely durable to boot! I had 3 of my nieces laying on it last Saturday when I was cutting down some trees, and it held up like a champ. Collectively, I would say there was about 350 lbs. on it. Great looks, low profile, lightweight, durable as hell, weather-tight and easily removed. Three thumbs up for the UnderCover!

Good luck with the rest of your questions!

Welcome Jason....
...Don't know about your hood problem...but I would definitely look into the aftermarket for your toneau cover....personally, I went with the Truxedo Lowpro...but to each their own....

I agree. The OEM Ford Snapless Tonneau looks like a horse-carriage to me as it is bowed upward severely. If you are looking into high-end quality covers, the aftermarket is where you need to look.
Your options are basically soft, hard, fiberglass, or retractable.
The best in each category, in my opionion is the TruXedo Lo-Pro, UnderCover, ARE-LSII, and the Retrax, respectively, each increasing in price as you go along...

Try turning your hood bump stops down a couple of turns and seeing if you still have the upward pressure on the corners.
Did it lay flat before it was installed on the truck?
