Question for jpdadeo and others

Alright guys..im thinking of taking the jump to the af1 intake and xcal2.
I have heard about guys having problems with the af1 and a "cel" and engine light problem. What exactly is a "CEL"? Also..where is the cheapest place to buy one?
Now..what is the difference between the Xcal2 and hypertech? just different brands? I plan on running 87 octane..what tunes would i get?also..where at can i get this? thanks
sorry for all the newbish questions

Check Engine Llight. Means something isn't right. The majority don't get it. It seems to be a crap shoot. I'd be more worried about the **** poor build quality & horrific noises that you'll hear after the install...

Xcal2 is a custom tuner, the Hypertech is a generic 'canned' tuner, much like the 1714/1745. The xcal to is comparible to the Diablo Predator. It's really not the hardware, it's the customer tune you get from somewhere. Mike Troyer is the favortive around here. Use the search button for pete's sake, and don't be afraid to venture into the right forums to get the info...

I have the AF1 and the Xcal2 and love them both. I had NO install issues with the intake and it doesn't make any more noise than the stocker except at WOT. The people that complain about the noise likely need to check their install again. Just make sure that the filter and the elbow that attaches to the throttle body are at the end of the tube. Slight changes of either of these make a HUGE difference in the noise of the intake.

As far as the Xcal2 is concerned, it's just hardware. What your really interested in is the tunes themselves. With the Xcal2 you can get 3 different tunes. I would suggest making a call to Troyer performance and talking to them about the Xcal2 and the AF1. They will answer any questions you have.

Check the install, puh-leeze. It's just plain LOUD. Sure cruising and keep the RPMs under 3K and it isn't any louder than stock. Pass that 3K mark (isn't hard to do) and it starts to wail and howl like a wildabeast. Everyone has different definitions of 'loud'. If you love your quiet truck, the AF1 WILL change it. It's NOT quiet. I've got the SPL meter that proves it.

After I first installed the AF1, it WAS much louder than stock. I simply went over all the clamps and made sure the tube wasn't any farther into the filter or intake elbow than necessary. After that, the noise isn't any more than stock, unless I'm at WOT.

Just because YOURS is louder, doesn't mean ALL of them will be louder.

I have to agree. Very quiet...

And, back on topic, I have the AF1, Xcal tuned, and Magnaflow... all in all, it's WELL worth the money in my opinion. As far as 'bolt-on' stuff is concerned, these are sure fire positive upgrade/modifications in my book!
