Considering F150, have questions

Guys after doing a search and reading on the board for a while I still have a few questions before making the jump to an 05 or 06 F150.

I have a 99 F150 extended cab and looking at the lariat, crew 4x4 with all the bells and whistles. Problems I've had with my 99 are front rotors, manifold bolts broken, possible valve cover/head gasket oil leak, piston knock and door cracks.

So what I want to know are all these problems resolved on the 2005 or 2006 F150's ?

After reading some of the post sounds like Ford is still having rotor problems and now they have a vibration problem. Hopefully the door crack issue is resolved with the new body style.

I was considering an F250 but can't justify the extra cost and the F150 will do what I need a truck to do.

Thanks for your help/opinions.

Door crack is fixed.

NO problems with rotors or anything else on my truck with 25,000 rough miles on it. Only thing for me so far was a leaking 3rd brake light and having the driveline yoke greased.

My previous truck was an 01 F-150 Supercab, in the three years of ownership never had one problem. Can't say that with my '04.
If your looking into a new truck...buy an 06, I think you will be happy.

My '04s had a few minor trim problems, squeaks and rattles here and there, but nothing unusual for a new first model year. Had to replace the front rotors and resurface the rear for a brake pulsation, but otherwise, it's been fine. I wouldn't hesistate to buy an '04+ F150.

Have owned an 05 F150 for 10 months now with no problems. I have read that people with the sunroofs have had rattling issues as well as others with drivetrain problems(Strong vibrations/bouncing at certain speeds 25/40 mph). Vibrations in the rotor could be due to driving hot rotors through water and creating warping(could be due to hard braking) or long trips and going through rain. Also our trucks are very heavy and the front takes the most weight of the vehicle including the engine weight. The fit and finish seems has been great, parts have held together well and can't complain about anything right now. It drives very smooth and looks great. I would go with an 06 since some cosmetic improvements nd extra options have been made and also the value should hold out longer since it IS the newer year. But you could get an 05 for a good price, sometimes up to 8,000 off sticker( and better incentives). Definitely has been recommended by many to TEST DRIVE THE TRUCK YOU ARE LOOKING AT BUYING. NOT THE DEMO. Once the purchase is made dealers usually give you the cold shoulder and you'll take multiple trips to the dealer to try to correct a problem "That cannot be duplicated". It has been to me a Great truck. Get the back up sensors. Really come in handy. I see alot of trucks with dented rear chrome bumpers around town. It seems to happen alot and you really can't judge distance well. Good luck.....

Guys thanks for all the good information and answering my questions. Guess I'll have to get out there today and do some looking around and then make a decission on what to go with.

I bought my 99 back when they were having brake problems and engine problems and it's been a pretty good truck. So some minor problems won't scare me off from the F150 this time either.

Thanks again

Hillbilly i had a 99 150 scab also only probs with it was spark plug wires . traded it on a 03 150 scab then to this 04 150 . Some aggravating things with this truck but hey like you i should have waited till they debugged it after a couple years. Buy a 06 but test drive it well dont be afraid of putting it on highway speeds for a cruise or just bopping around town .

The only problem you'll really have with this newer model is, the mod bug that
your gonna come down with will cost ya some savings ...

Thanks again for the info. went out today looking at the two trucks I"m considering and think I came home leaning towards the 06F150. Didn't test drive any did that the other day and just wanted to compare interiors. Having Fords and Nissans in the past I was considering the Titan and it does seem to have more gadgets and a little more pick up but the F150 just seems to be put together better and a little more solid and a lot quieter. The stereo rocks as well.

Plus I picked up an 06 brochure and I see in winter of 06 which I'm hoping they mean Jan. - Mar. 06 that the Crew cab will be available with a 6.5' bed. The bed size has been the only thing holding me back. I haul my dirt bike and still use a truck here and there as a truck and wasn't crazy about the 5.5' bed.

So now need to see when I can order the crew with the 6.5' bed and if it's not until this time next year then just might go with the current smaller bed.

So I'm thinking F150, lariat, crew, new chrome package and new smokestone color which is cool. Then I just have to decide on 18" or 20" wheels

I have to say you guys have some awesome looking trucks and I can see some mods in my future. At least a leveling kit or maybe even more.
