Going back to the track tonight....need advice

OK guys...... going back to the track tonight so wish me luck. Last time I went I ran a 15.5 with an Xcal and exhaust in 94 degree heat with 100% humidity. Looks like it's going to be in the low 70's tonight (maybe high 60's), low humidity. Also I'm adding pullies and a Volant today before I go.

Couple of things though....

Should I take the tailgate and spare off?
I hear stalling it up to launch is a bad thing??
Any other advice??

REALLY want in the 14's.... I know, that's alot of time to make up but there are people doing this (hellbound, Fatherford, etc)

Trucks an 05 RC 5.4 w/ 3.73.

The spare should remove some weight, not alot though...and about the tailgate, i heard its soposed to reduce drag from air comming off the cabin, so im not sure if you would wanna remove it for the weight or not. good luck

Think I read something somewhere about the tailgate helping also. Wish I had that soft tonneau cover!

I would think that I would leave the spare on. Youre gonna need some weight in the back for traction. If you have a lot of power, your wheels are gonna hop, especially if you have a good launch.

I'm thinking your right about the spare. Besides..... I really want "real" times more than best times. You know..... just like I would drive it everyday, not stripped down.

If you feel the need to leave at a higher rpm than idle, then I suggest you give it just enough throttle to take the play out of the driveline. No more than 1000 rpm. All you do is heat the tranny up if you attempt to go any higher without an aftermarket convertor...Good luck.. I sometimes wish I would have gone for the RC 5.4 3:73, but I did need the Supercrews towing and passenger capacity, can't explain why I bought the 4x4. It should be pretty easy to make a truck like yours run very well...

Well.... I ran out of time Friday and couldn't install the pulleys before I left. I did get the Volant installed (LOVE IT!!!). Took the tailgate completely off and left the spare tire on. Looking back I should have left the gate on and dropped the spare tire. Tempratures were in the mid to low 70's. Ended up running a 15.3...... not too bad, but a far cry from the 14.9

Also, raced 3 trucks.....

Newer model x-cab Chevy - don't know what was done to it but it had to be supercharged or something. He beat me by 4 truck lengths or something. That was a bit humbling

05 Reg Cab Ram (w/ Hemi) - beat him by 2 truck lengths. he ran a 15.8. Talked to him after the race and he said he wisherd he would have bought the F150.... he hates his truck. said he ran a 15.8 twice and a 15.9. The 15.9 was his freind driving

Early 90's reg cab Chevy w/ 350 - Beat him really bad
