Temperature sensor

Does anyone know where the temperature sensor is located. The sensor that displays the current outside temp right above your odometer. My temp reading is all messed up it reads higher. The truck has 40,000 miles on it so I can't take it to the dealer. I do have the xcalibur programmed in to it

Has anyone else had the problem of the temperature sensor going bad?

Mine is within one degree of being accurate. Except in heavy traffic it reads high. I'm guessing because of increased underhood temps? Makes sense to me.

I think mine is defective. I have 48k on the truck and my temp reading it like 90 degrees when it is 60 degress out. I also took an Ohm measurement across the sensor when I pulled the sensor out and the measurement was about 35k ohm, which is out of spec from the service manual I have on CD. The stealership wants $80 plus tax for a new sensor. I also measured the socket where the sensor goes in to and it measured 5 VDC with the truck turned on. I don't know if it is suppose to measure 5 VDC or not. If anyone has time, could they pull there sensor out and measure the resistance across the two prongs on the SENSOR.

Thanks

If it's bad, take it to a NAPA. If they ask what it is off of, dont tell them, ask them if they can look it up in the buyers guide. I have seen the one under my hood, and seen the same part on the shelf before. it actually reads the coolent temp for the computer in some cars. If I think about it I'll try to get the part number tommorow (Sat morning) for ya'll.

OK the NAPA part # is TS4005!

http://www.napaonline.com/cgi-bin/nc...9&prmenbr=5806

hope that link works, if not go to napaonline.com and type in that number it the napa PN box.

the price is list, it should sell for about 4-5 dollars cheaper in the store.

I wouldn't replace it yet. If you have an 04, early build, there was a TSB about it not reading correctly. The fix was a computer flash.

No, sorry. Mine showed wrong temp from start, but if your PCM has never been reflashed, it might be worth it since there were a lot of changes. Do you have an extended warranty? Otherwise you would have to pay for it since you are past 36k. Also after reading the thread closer, you do think it is out of spec. Sorry.

I removed my temperature sensor and measured across the two prongs(on the sensor). The service manual(I have it on CD) says it is suppose to measure between 8k ohm and 14k ohm, and my sensor measure 35k ohms. I was wondernig if anyone here could remove there sensor and take a resistance measurement across their sensor. It if their sensor falls into spec then my sensor is most likely faulty

Sorry to dredge this back up but I'm pretty sure my read out is wrong.

If the sensor can be replaced that's fine as I'm under warranty but as I have the XCAL I don't want it have my computer flashed.

Any opinions or related experiences and was the fix a flash?

In my case it was a reflash. Before the reflash it was off quite a bit. Has been very consistent and close ever since.

Yea I have to avoid a reflash at all costs.
