Hey Guys,

So tonight was the first time the truck has had to sit in 35 degree weather outside. I went to unlock the truck and the keyless lock that is on the ARE LSII cover that I bought this summer won't work.

I drove to the store anyhow and when I go there, which was a 20 minute drive, it had warmed up enough (I guess that's it) to work. By the time I went in and out of the store, 10 minutes at the most, it wouldn't work.

My question; does anyone know why it's doing this? Does anyone with the ARE LSII keyless eletric lock have this problem in the cold? RP, you're only one I know who has it. Have you had this problem in 35 degree and colder weather?

What the heck could be causing this problem?

What is this "Cold" that you speak of?

Might be a lubricaton issue, whatever they use gets thick in the cold.

Might be a voltage drop issue, the solenoid isn't getting the full 12 volts & therefore doesn't have enough oomph to open it over the resistance of the cold grease.

 

I had one on my '04 and didn't have any problems with it thru the winter. We even had some really cold temps last year and it worked fine.

 

double check all the connections they made... most likely they went through the side of the bed into the drivers side tail light then down under the truck. they had to tap into the unlock switch to get the lock to work, so there is alot of wiring involved. make sure to tighten them up and make sure they're all the way connected. what may happen is the wires may heat up a bit and stretch out enough to connect in the heat and shrink up in the cold... sort of like a vinyl tonneau. thats my best guess. i used to work installing these things and i havent heard of any problems with the LSII's lock.

 

I did have a few problems with mine in the cold.... WD40 seemed to help on mine but, I still had intermittent problems last winter as well.

 

Yeah I just got off the phone with the install shop who called ARE. They said to use WD-40 or some other lubricant on it.

Do you think that silicone lubricant would work? I've used that stuff on squeaky doors and it works really well. Just don't know how it'd react to the cold. Supposeably that stuff never comes off once it's sprayed on something.

I'd just hate to have to carry WD-40 with me over the entire winter. I won't even see 30 degrees for the month of February. It barely gets above 0 then. It's only going to get colder and if I'm having problems at 35 degrees, then I'm in big trouble.
