4.5 or 5.5 backspacing for 'the look'?

In light of thumper's new 6" lift and setup, I am wondering what backspacing would be best for what I am going to do....3" skyjacker lift, 20" rims, 33" mud tires. I like the look of thumper's truck, wide stance, tires sticking out, etc. He has the 18x9 rim w/ 5.5 backspacing and 33x13.50 tires. I was considering going with 20x9 or 20x10 rims w/ 4.5 backspacing to make sure it sticks out at least more than an inch. But I did notice someone on here that put 20's and 4.5 backspacing on said something about it possibly causing parts to wear out faster w/ that kind of backspacing. I was hoping to go with tires that are 33x12.50 OR go w/ wheels that are 10" instead of 9" wide. I was planning on cutting back on one or the other (the wheels or tires) in order to have a setup that won't start killing my gas mileage and stuff (because the bigger wheel or tire you have, the more it takes to turn it). Plus I only have the 3.55 gears and not planning on changing. What do you guys think, any recommendations?

I have 4.5 backspacing on mine, they do stick out quite a bit. I will post some photos later on today.

I'd try to find a wheel with 5.5 inches of backspacing.

I agree. All those folks that have less than factory offset will soon begin to complain about worn wheel bearings and then all aftermarket wheels will become evil. (Read my rant on modifications elsewhere...)

hay txf150 are those 9 inch wide wheels or more? I have been looking at some 9 inch wide rims with 4.5 inch backspacing. but if they stick out that much I doubt I will be getting them. also what size tires are those? also I was also curious about if if those 315's rub any on ackackadak truck as I have been wanting to go to those tires someday when I get new gears.

I've held off on ordering the lift for now, still trying to decide on wheel size and tire width. I was planning on just ordering it all at about the same time, I won't do the lift w/ factory tires/wheels on anyway. If anyone else has any pics looking down the side of your trucks so we can see how far the tires and wheels stick out, please post. If anyone does, please list your wheel and tire size and backspacing if its not listed in your gallery.

2005 FX4. No tire rubbing, 2.5" autopring spacers with minimal rub marks on springs. No tread sticking out beyond wheelwells. Totally satisfied. No offroad or highway use; your use may impact your experience. The only downside is loss of gearing which will be fixed when Randy's can ship 4.88 RP for the 8.8 diff. (I like gears)

I am running 20x10's with 4.5" backspacing. Tires are 33x13.50x20's.

Freeky, I remember your truck and setup. Any problems yet? Looks like you went the max that I was considering, w/ your sizes. I am going to do either 20x9, 4.5", 33x13.5, or 20x10, 5.5, 33x12.5. I guess the 2nd option is not as wide, the wheels and backspacing choices I just wrote probably even out.
