Any real leveling kit problems??
Any real leveling kit problems??
I know this has probably been answered but I've searched for almost an hour now and havn't really turned up anything. Question is, other than rubbing some of the coating off the coilsprings, has anybody had any major issues or damage result from a leveling kit. I noticed that most of the rubbing problems seemed to be with the 2.5 inch kits. I was going to do 2.5" but decided on a 2. Also noticed some say they rub, some say no problems at all. Whats the deal? Some rub with very low mileage, other have 20K+ and aren't rubbing anything. I was going to finally get off my **** and order one (2" AS)this weekend but now I'm scurred. I know it has to be aligned as well. I'm planning on installing the spacer Sunday evening then going straight to my dealer next morning for an alignment. So lets have it, everybody chime in and let the world know something. Oh and please, lets not turn this into a "this height is better" or a Daystar vs. Autospring vs. Truxxx vs. whatever, my kits better than yours arguement.
2.5" autospring and no REAL damage. See my gallery for exampe damage pics. I believe I got most of my damage during install and jacking the truck up for alignment and tire rotation after the kit was installed. I have had a vinyl hose over my coil for several weeks now and the hose hasn't one scratch.
I feel that the front end doesn't take big bumps or pot holes as well after the level due to the suspension angles achieved after the level, but so far, the looks outwiegh the costs for me.

my front springs are scraped up from my 2.5 autospring, but other than the surface blemish, the springs are in great shape- no Real damage at all... just turned 8k miles...had them on since 2.5k
There is what I will call a TiT that is cast on the alum. lower control arm that seems to act as a bumper for turning. I have the daystar 2.5. I had it on my 04 reg cab fx4 and now I have it on my 05 scab fx4. This issue was the same on both. allitle damage. The price I will continue to pay so I can ride on my Mickey T's.

OK, not following you on what exactly happened. Did something tear your nipple off?

yes, I am not sure what angle it would be since I am not a mech. I think if you look at the back of the spindle closest to the front of the vehicle you will see an area that is about two inches long and an inch wide and has two angles on it. since the ride height has changed the angle is off so this area on the spindle is meeting the bumper on the alum control arm and basically scrapping it off.

GarrScott I looked at your pics, I see what you guys are talking about now. If aftermarket kits dont even have it ya think it would hurt anything to take a grinder and remove or at least re-shape it so it meets up a little better?
If you plan to offroad at all....dont go with the autospring....It clanks and bangs around down there....I'm sure the upper balljoint is going through hell too....wish i would have just saved money and waited to get a full suspension lift....that is my next move, Fabtech 6" with some of their SWEET coilovers.....
I got the 2" kit and it works GREAT unless you are offroading and really flexing the suspension....this kit was made for asthetic reasons, not for reliability and performance....
I'm curious to see what my dealer says when i take the truck in for my 15K service...

COFX4 is correct though. You will have some clanks and bangs if you get in a situation were a front tire takes a huge drop. This has happend several times for me, but I haven't seen any dammage as a result of this happening.
If you could get a replacement shock that would limit the downward wheel travel, that seems like a potiential fix. The Skyjacker, King, or Donahoe coilover systems may offer that type of limited travel to keep this from happening, but I haven't called to find out yet, nor heard that in this forum.
Still loving the level look and feel though.

I would agree with COFX4. If you plan on doing any offroading, the leveling kit is NOT the way to go. I have had 2.5" autospring in mine for three months and the look of the truck is awesome like what a truck should look like;but the angle of the upper control arm is not far from the spring and spindle joint screw has bitten the plastic coating off it. Also full turning is limited and I don't want to force metal to warp or scratch
. I know there is a long thread here with many guys taking them out and selling them. If you want to get them it will make your truck look good until you save up for a full lift. But I don't know anyone who recommends to have them on your truck always specially offroading.
When I was swaping my skyjacker 3" coilovers for the factory coilovers, I found the rub marks that many of you are complaining of on the factory coils. Are a lot of you guys assuming that the rub marks came after you put your leveling kit in, or where they there and you just didn't notice. My 05 was completely stock besides having 285/17 BFG AT's on. The drivers side spring was the most noticeable.
There isn't any clearance problems so far with the skyjacker 3" kit. Skyjacker recognized that there could be a problem, and addresses a solution in the install instructions.
