Daystar vs. Autospring
Daystar vs. Autospring
Ok, I know there are a million posts on here about leveling kits but what's the concensus on Daystar vs. Autospring?
The local off-road store here has Daystar. I believe it is a polyurethane spacer. I've heard stuff here about the 2.5" Autospring and rubbing issues on the coil spring. Doesn't Autospring have a 2" spacer?
Anyone use the Daystar?
What's the easiest way to install them? Anyone have pics?
I know I'll need an alignment after but any other issues I should be aware of?
Thanks and love the site.

your right.. ton's of posts..
i have the autospring 2'.. sorry i havent got pictures up yet.. ..i've heard they rub, but i've not come across this yet.. I belive the daystar, they have to compress the springs, the autospring did not.. so it ran me only 40 bucks to install... well maybe its the 2.5 that rubs.. hhmm.. i'll have to re-read... alginment was like 80 bucks.. other than that. i havent heard any other issues.

Noth'in like beat'in a dead horse, but... Here is the website for autospring http://www.autospringcorp.com/. I have the 1 5/8" autospring spacer and love it. 5K so far and no problems. The bigger 2" or 2 1/2" spacers may cause problems with the coil contact. The daystar spacer are plastic and may also squeak after install (which is more difficult than the autospring install). It took me about 45 minutes for each side, not bad.
I had the Daystar 2.5" kit installed by a Ford tech last night after hours. You definitely DO have to compress the springs for that kit. As you can guess, I don't have much input on the durability of the kit since I have driven 25 miles on it. I know one thing though, I LOVE the way it looks!!!
I have daystar on mine, no complaints easy to install but you will need a heavy duty strut compressor. ours wasn't and it was twisting up bad those springs are HEAVY DUTY! Took 1 1/2 hours to put on and cost $175 for the spacers
my daystar cost me $125 took me about 2 1/2 -3 hours to install guess im just slow
but yea unless you think you can take pretty much the whole front suspension apart then i'd just have someone do it. they will most likely charge you for at least 2 hours work tho so it wont be cheap

I called Autospring yesterday and was told that they have a new version out that is offset so as to eliminate the paint rub on the control arm. He stated that the rubbing only comes into play whenIt is available in all sizes. (*Disclaimer* I am only repeating what I have been told)

I paid $130 for the Daystar kit, and paid the guy $150 to put it on (including alignment). The guy did the work in the service bay at the dealership, and so far it drives like a dream. The alignment is right on the money.

If so, I wonder why some people are having problems and some are not.

Yep. I take my wheels off every time I wash it to clean the frame and back sides of the wheels.

Did your truck seem more level stock than others? I've seen some major heigh differences between stock front ends so this could be why.

It was not real bad off from factory but enough to **** me off.
I have not heard anything negative from any of the Daystar owners about spring rubbing like I have from the autospring owners. I know that people are saying that the rubbing is only cosmetic, but I for one don't want any rubbing on my truck. I know that Autospring has redeveloped their product, but I am not sure that product has necessarily been out long enough to say that it has proven itself yet.
I am looking at my options as far as leveling kits go. I really like the Daystar kit, but what I like about the Autospring kit is that it is available in different sizes. If I order the AS kit, I will probably order the 2". The Daystar kit is available in only one size.
Decisions, decisions...
