Please break down re-gearing for me
I've been reading posts on re-gearing, and talked to my service advisor about it. He said if I had the truck re-geared at the dealership, I wouldn't have any warranty issues.
My questions are, what are the pro's/con's of re-gearing? Where will I feel the improvements? Also, I plan to have the Roush supercharger installed next spring, and this truck will be our daily driver. What gearing would be the best bet for me? I like getting out of the gate quick, and being able to stomp on it at high speed and feel it. I don't really care about gas mileage, and I realize this is no sports car, but I would like to safely get out of the truck what I can. One last question, how much could I expect to pay for a dealership to sell me the gears and install them?
Thanks in advance for any help and insite.

Well with my 4.56's my truck is quick not fast
top speed is around 118 MPH, it was 136 MPH and i dont drive that fast anyway.
By the way I have the slowest truck stock in this 1/2 ton class and i have yet to lose to any none S/C truck

Just had my truck regeared to 4.56's with 33" tires. Huge difference in off the line acceleration and highway passing speed! I do plan on going to larger tires very soon. Mileage changed from 16.5 to 15mpg just for reference. Cost was $1900. and had bearings replaced in rear end at same time..
Well, if you're a 4WD, which you are... you can usually multiply the cost for one gear set times about 1.7 and you'll have your final cost for doing both. Personally, with something like gears, I would never take it to a dealer for such a thing. That's ONE of the very few things I would take to a performance shop, or a specialty gear/differential shop.
Back when I had my 2000 Mustang GT, I know that when I upgraded the gears to 3.73's out back (me and a buddy did it, upgraded from 3.27's), it woke the car up! Basically, your first gear will be shorter, and the RPM's will come up higher, faster. What this does is provide better acceleration. I think that if you're planning to go with the Roush Supercharger as intended, then your safest bet would be 4.10's. No higher...
If you go higher than that, you will almost assuredly break something under boost (i.e., your driveline, etc..). Either way, I say DO IT! Gears are the biggest "bang for the buck" mod out there, and although they don't actually increase horsepower, they do make the truck "feel" a lot faster according to the seat of your pants dyno. Good luck!
