'04 6" Lifted SCrew, MPG ISSUE?

I was wanting to take a poll concerning my gas mileage. I have a '04 Screw, 5.4L, 6" Lift, 18" Aluminum (light) wheels, 325/65/18 Nitto Terra Grapplers (50psi), 1714 Superchips Microtuner, KN filter w/ stock box, Magnaflow 5x9x18x2.5" with a side exit in front of the pass rear tire . I am running the tuner @ performance (91) for now with all of the Superchip settings and 34.5" selected on the tire height. I am only getting around 13.7 mpg on the lariat dash-o-matic mpg calculator (but it does add up to about that) and I'm *****footing it around mainly on the highways in Colorado. What do you guys think?? Average? **** poor?
Now when I bought it from the dealer lifted, yes lifted and brand new, they said they turned up the ecu #'s as high as they would go to help comp the tire size. Would this affect my 34.5" settings on the 1714 or does it just rewrite it? Could it be my engine? I had it around 500 miles before it was sent in and lifted (1 week later) and I was only getting 15 mpg stock but this was on a fresh and tight engine (Meaning it should and will suck more gas than a well broken in engine). It now has 11000 miles.

**Thanks for the help and if Mike's (Troyer) out there...HHHHEEEELLLPPP!
I trust his opinion and have bought a lot of goodies for my '01 Screw in the past from him.

I really just want to see if I'm just too darn picky again...
Thanks Guys! TTYL,
[B]
Mike R.

You are doing fine. Im surprised you arent getting worse mileage.

Bigger tires are harder to turn. Higher ride hight gives you poor aerodynamics.

I dont understand the statement about a fresh and tight engine. Engines usually get better mileage after break in.

Why are you picky about mileage... You picked the wrong hobby to be asking about mileage.

I had a Jeep with 36s on it. My mileage went down about 40%. From what I understand you lost 1.3 MPG.

Also the speed-o may be off a little and could be exaggerating your MPG. I would say you should get worse mileage.

good luck.

What I am contesting isn't the fact that a taller vehicle will get worse mileage, it's that I think it should be around 15-16 now. My stock setup was 285/65/18's with 3:73's on a 4x4 SCrew. That's around a 32" tire for the stock to a 34.5" Nitto) The wheels are the same size but my new ones are definitely lighter. That's why I'm wondering about the big drop in the #'s.
Guaging the stock mileage 16-20 city/hwy, I thought the ratios would be a bit closer. I had a '01 SCrew with the same mods except I had 4:56's and 35 with a 6" lift, and the older 5.4L, chipped and exhausted and I was getting 17 on the highway (55,000mi on it too). That's why I think somethings a miss...
I also have a '03 TJ that has 35' MT's and 15x10" wheels and a 7" lift. Stock was 29" tires and I was getting 20 mpg and with my current set up I still get 16 mpg (I redid my speedo gear). I'm slinging a lot of rubber with this set up compared to my SCrew and my TJ has the aerodynamics of a brick @ best.
Thanks for the imput though!
Mike

How's that even possible? That seems way high.

I'm getting 12 on the dot with 305/45/22s and they are hardly bigger than stock on an 05 screw 5.4 2wd 3.55LS. I've tried driving like my grandma and fairly aggressively and it hardly differs.

Granted, the truck only has 1,200~ miles..but you were getting WAY more than me when you bought your truck and the freakin' thing was lifted?

Something seems weird here.

Are you saying 12 overall or 12 on the highway? I was thinking about 305s with 22s but I think I might move towards 305 with 20s if it kills your gas mileage that bad.

Cool

13.7 overall. Nothing wierd hear I just drive without hammering the throttle at every light. With my mods, gears and lift I still think it should be a bit higher with the tuner and 91 oct. plus firmming up the shifts.

How about this then-
Let's compare what you guys got before and then after your lift/mods...

Guess I'll keep my level kit and 15.9 mpg average.

Try nitrogen filled tires if you want to improve your gas milege--did it about a month ago and I have picked up about 1 mpg increase so far. My dad has a F250 screw and he has picked up 1 mpg with the nitrogen filled tires as well.

lol, what an ***

Btw, I cannot find a single place around here that will fill up nitrogen into your tires. How much does it cost for all 4 tires.

You should be happy with what your getting. With my 6" Lift and 35's I am getting about 11.5-12MPG with my 4x4 Screw and 5.4L.

I paid $4/tire for the nitro fill at Gateway Tire. I think they just are around Memphis and North MS though. avg mpg is up to 16 today. I haven't reset it in over a month--when I got the nitro done. I am curious as to where I will level out. I drive about 40% city and 60% highway.

How exactly does Nitrogen in tires (instead of air) result in better mpg???
