Anyone tried Scotchguarding XLT cloth seats?

I have the cloth seats and like them except for the fack that anything that touches them leaves a stain. I can't even open the door while its raining without getting stains on them. Its really aggervating and an eye sore. I was thinking about putting Scotchguard on them, but I'm reluctant because I have had no prior experience with it. If anyone out there can shed some light on this for me it would be much apperciated. Thanks

About 6 months ago, I picked up some Prowax's Pro-Gard Fabric Protector from my local detail supply store. It goes on really easy, just spray on and let dry for a few hours. So far, it's worked really well. If something does get spilled on the seats or carpets, it comes off very easy, just use a wet rag and wipes right off. I'm very satisfied.

When I bought my truck, XLT, I also bought the interior/exterior protection package. The interior was supposedly scotch guarded. A couple months ago I spilled some water on the driver seat and after it tried, it looks like I peed on the seat and left it there. Either the company that put the scotch guard on didn't do it, or did a crappy job. I don't know what's up with these seats. This isn't the first I've heard of it either.

My dealer sprayed mine with some protectant as part of the dealer prep at no charge. It had to dry before I picked up the truck and it smelled like dead fish for a couple of days, but I have had no stain problem at all. Spilled water and other things, no problem yet.

I was thinking of putting on some kind of protectent also. My 2 year old loves climbing all over the interior and its only a matter of time before I start seeing stains so thats my next purchase.

I went to WallyWorld and bought a couple cans of the 3M scotch guard. Followed the directions, works fine.

I Scotchguarded all of my seats when I got my truck and the seats still show stains. I had a 2000 Scab that I liked the cloth in alot better. It was a tan color, with a more obscured color pattern in it and it never showed dirt. My dad also has an '05 that he Scotchguarded and its the same as mine (shows stains).

Is this a one time application? If not, how often do you need to apply it? Have you tried it on the floormats/carpeting? I've tried scotchguard on another vehicle and it was not worth it.

I applied 2 coats, one right after the other. 6 months later, it's still doing a good job at repelling stains. No need to reapply as of yet... Regarding the floormats and carpeting, yes I did apply it there also. However, I still need to wash (scrub) the driver's floormat about once every 2-3 months.

I just bought a can of scotch guard yesterday and it states on the can that it should be reapplied every 6 months. I havent put it on yet do to the rain we`ve been having. Also it says you should put 2 light coats on the first time. We will see what happens.

Thumbs up

Yes I have done the seats and carpet with no problems. Also did the heat sheild under the hood, just lay a sheet over everything so it does't get on the body.

Seats

Thanks for all the good information fellows. This appears to be the way to go as I was considering buying some seat covers, but all the chearper ones suck and I was trying not to spend alot of money. The only seat covers I have seen and liked were the wet okles and they are just to damn expensive. To bad Ford didn't make these seats out of better fabric; otherwise, they are great seats. I think I will try that Pro Gruard as suggested above, I just didn't want to be the gunnie pig and mess up my seats. Thanks
