Overhead Rail System Upgrades

I was wondering if anyone with the overhead rack system like I have in my Lariat has ever thought about modifying it to make it do something cool??? I know this is a vague question but I am trying to get some ideas as how to make it more functional with a cool feature that no one else has yet. Basically I have that door that swings down and I can put a CD case in it but that is about all. I know Ford has some packages for them but no images on the web.

I was actually thinking about taking out the door and maybe in the doors place make a fiberglass piece to hold my specific phone, After market RSS system, custom sunglasses holder, maybe a center channel speaker when the DVD system goes in??

Any ideas let me know...thanks in advance.

I was thinking the same thing. I was all excited when I got it, but now im like WTF,,,I dont use it much. I have one bin that holds the mini snake lights. Kinda cool, and I've needed a light a few times so it came in handy. I have the first aid kit, and the cd case, both of which sit in my center console and never see the light of day. The only cool thing I was thinking about doing is lighting up the rails. You know that real thin neon light the ricer kids use to outline all the seats and dashboards and crap in the interior? I was thinking about getting that and running it along the inside edge of each rail, basically tucking it up inside it, so you couldnt see it. But when turned on , it would add some pretty cool light to the interior. I dont mean like crazy bright yellow or hot pink or anything, maybe a light blue or red would look good with the black interior.

Other than that, I have no idea what else to do with the rails.

I JUST got 2 of the bins in the mail today from Klassic (BTW...THANKS!). I plan to modify one into a drop down monitor housing. I have it planned out already and it should be pretty sweet when completed. With it closed it will look completely stock.

BTW then I will have 4 monitors....I just need to figure out where to put 2 more so I can out do that guy with 5!

I ran a cable up there to put my ipod in the box up top out of sight and i figured the last place someone would think to look for anything other than sunglasses.

Huh? We love the DVD. The kids and I really appreciate it on long trips.

I also keep my Ipod in the middle container and run RCA cables to the DVD Aux In and play my Ipod through the truck. Great sound.

That said....where are all the options we were promised. There is a fella by the name of Rambunctious (or something) that used to post here with updates on the products. He actually works for the company that desgined the rail system. He still posts on another forum occasionally but there really is nothing new.

I dunno. I'd rather not get the thread locked discussing it though, so e-mail me and we'll talk about it.

Good idea about lighting the rails...that has inspired me, what about some fiber optic lighting? Low power, no heat, multiple colors and super thin. I did a google search and found this link to a guy that got it out of a Kmart Xmas tree, small unit with tons of wires....may be good idea to stuff the box in the rail system, and run the lights down the inside of the rails. http://

Ram, I like the monitor concept, I think I am just going to do the two like you have in the head rest...did you see my pictures of my XM Commander stuffed in the ashtray...same concept, tucked away clean so no one can see it.

I am going to consider also making that box some type of IPod holder, maybe run power to it and mount the holder inside. Keep the ideas coming guys I think we are onto something.

Gun rack

I'm thinking about making a gun rack to go up there. Just have too many other projects on the go right now.

I'm just waiting for Alpine to make their kit to attach their PKG-1000 10.2" screen to the rails. It was suppose to be out this summer. I called them today and they still can't give me a definate date of release.

I just got my Metro Package today, so the DVD player is sitting in the closet. I have no use for it, no kids and I never ride back there as it is.
