05 F150 comparison
Hey guys, a noob here, so forgive my ignorance to this whole posting thing.
I bought a 2005 F150 4.6L 4x4 few month's back. I traded in my 2002 GMC which had a 4.8L. It too was a 4x4. The hp on both trucks is about the same in the 230ish range.
My issue is the GMC just seemed to be more ballsy, if you will. My Ford is a supercab the GMC wasn't that's really the only difference, is the weight of these trucks that much of a henderence?? Or do the Vortecs just have a little more humph?
Not doggin Ford or anything my truck is freakin' awesome am just curious, I never really loaded my GMC down. I may have had 500 or 600 pounds in the back. It didn't really seem to make a difference.
Just did the first oil change
Also did the airbox mod
(taking out the silencer and changing the tub going into the fender)
I could really tell a difference in the butt dyno after doing that, am glad I did.
Haven't taken any new pics in a while. I have a leveling kit ordered, will add those one I am done
Anyway thx for the input, bag GMC if you want, won't hurt my feelings any

The 04-06 F150 weighs in close to 6000 lbs. That's alot of truck to pull around. I bet the GMC weighed alot less. You still wound up with the best truck regardless. Welcome to the BEST F150 site on the net.

To me these trucks dont "feel" fast or quick but yet i think they are. They are much smoother, quieter, and more comfortable making it seem like they are slow to some extent. So when you hammer it, it doesnt jerk you back into your seat, you cant hear the road noise, and you cant hear the engine much making it feel slow. With some investments into a few mods, these trucks can be waken up too. You made the right choice going to the F-150.
I got mixed feelings on this. On one side, it's a truck it ain't really supposed to go fast. Then on the other hand, when I'm behind the wheel, I wish there was more power. I bought the Ford because I was willing to give up the power over a Dodge or Toyota and gain what I think is one of the toughest trucks available and the overall best buy for a pickup. When you think about it for 6000lbs and 230HP or so, it's pretty damn good how they perform. I also have a 3400lb Accord at about 170HP. No rice, just plain jane with a lil under the hood (go ahead and bash me for the Honda, I can take it
). Comparing the two just isn't fair. The car is quick and nimble, but the truck truly amazes me at how well it does. So from my perspective of coming from a sportier setup I'm very impressed. If you want more power and have some cash you def can make some real good power, but you'll still have that strong foundation those other trucks lack.

Since I currently own a Chevy with the 5.3 and I owned a 5.4 2001 Supercrew as well as a 99 Chevy with the 5.3 I think I can understand where you are coming from. My 99 Chevy seemed extremely strong moreso than the 5.4 in my 01 Supercrew. There was some weight difference and of course that was the old 2 valve 5.4 liter. However, GM has gone to the electronic drive by wire gas/accelerator. My 04 Chevy seems very similar to the 01 Ford in terms of power/performance. The torque management on the newer GM's really keeps performance down without doing a retune, and my current truck is stock. Of course I know this is a Ford site and here I am driving a GM. (It was a less expensive truck at trading time thanks to GM's bigger rebates when the NBS F150 was "brand new") I've always been a Ford guy and still consider myself to be one. As mentioned the frame under the Fords is much stronger. And if you want higher performance there's plenty that can be done with the Ford 5.4. If I were trading today with the assumption that gas prices will go down, I'd probably be back in a Ford. The current F150 is miles ahead in interior styling. Of course it's GM's turn to try and up the anti with their new trucks that will be coming in the 07 model year. I hope Ford soon goes with the Hurricane engine as GM looks to have a 6.2 L Vortec with 6 speed auto as an option in their 1/2 ton trucks. I have a feeling that if Ford doesn't respond GM will definitely be ruling the Big 3 (as well as import) roost in horsepower before long. As for now the grass is no greener on the GM side.

I agree with most of what everybody else above wrote. But I would also like to add that your 4.8 Vortec motor was rated by GM at 270hp, not 230. I think you can feel 40hp difference in the seat of your pants, add the weight difference, and the fact the GMs excellent 4speed auto shifts quickly and smoothly, you start to see a performance gap here. Just my .02
(go ahead and bash me for the Honda, I can take it ).
I just got a new job at Honda, and I'm from Pittsburgh.
OK in my book

I stand corrected
, the GMC did have 270hp. I had it stuck in my hair covered computer that it had in the 230 range. well that pretty much explains it then. I know it sure ran better. I plan on getting a xcal2 for it in a few months (soon as I can hustle up the 4+ bills) so that should help alot.
I really love the truck though... Can't stress that enough, and it's pretty cool because the town I live in not many people have them. I think, I have only seen one or two other's and even then they weren't identical
Am looking forward to the leveling kit. Hope it doesn't sag the butt end of it down too much when I put weight in it, looks tacky like that IMO..
Thanks for all the replies!
