question about exhaust
talked to a guy today about getting more airflow from my exhaust. im thinking about cutting off the cats and getting some mil eliminators but he said that it would cut my mpg by 6
im pretty sure it wouldnt cut it that much and 1-2 mpg i can deal with. but how will the truck run? will i gain or lose tq from the back pressure?

Don't talk to that guy again. Even though it may not matter in your neck of the woods, tampering with working emissions equipment is illegal, you know. I've no idea how your truck would run, and I don't know how those MIL eliminators work. I don't see how the PCM would see a switching reference from those eliminators.

then whats the differnece in cut outs and just taking my cats off then? the back o2 sensers dont really have anything to do with how the pcm controls the truck as far as i know the front o2's are the only important ones and the back just through a cel if you do something to the cats. i ran my old 99 chevy without back o2's and cats for about 50k miles and never notice a difference besides the fact that it was twice as loud

Go with a pair of Magnaflow high-flow cats they’ll increase flow rate and still satisfy the downstream O2 sensor
Magnaflow 2.50" IN/OUT w/AIR High Flow Catalytic Converter

Then do it and post your results
A pair (you only need one per side) of Magnaflow Cats plus shop time welding them in would be around $200 bucks and you’d still be 50-state legal

In refrence to cutting off the cats completely, I belive thats illegal.
the only time i've ever even heard of an emissions test except if your truck is really loud and your reving up in the middle of town the cops will test it thats about the only time i've ever heard anyone get tested. and i know all the cops (all three of them) pretty well so no worries there.
how do they do emission tests everywhere else? like when you get your tag of something? i've never heard of it just to be honest
