I forgot to release my parking brake and drove about a mile until my truck started to vibrate like crazy. I pulled over, got out of my truck and smelt a bad burning smell. Realized I hadn't released the parking brake. Do you guys think I did some damage to my truck? Is there anything I should check or be worried about?

My parking brake was sticking on release. I don't know if it would be a concern or not, but they replaced my whole parking brake, rear rotors and rear brake pads.

 

Yes, a whole lot of nothing is gonna happen.

 

Freakin Ford! If you notice, the CC will not engage with the parking brake on. That's how I found out I had left mine on one time. If the truck is smart enough to not allow CC with the brake on, you'd think it could ring a chime, or something.

 

Been there, done that- the first week I owned the truck. 20k miles later on my 04 Screw, no problems.

 

It 'freakin' amazes me that someone would attempt to pawn this off on someone else... I mean really... it's Ford's fault? Ludicrous.

I did the same thing and thought that my near perfect FX4 had caught the dreaded vibe. That was until I noticed the glowing bright read exclamation point on the dash.

I did take mine by the dealer for an oil changea and he asked if the p-brake was sticking but I told him what I had done. Next thing you know, I 've got new rear rotors/p-brake assembly and pads. Didn't ask why, but he just smiled and thanked me for bringing it in.

 

It's not Ford's fault that a bunch of idiots drive around with the parking brake on. But is Ford's fault that they engineered the CC to not work with the PB on but didn't bother to hook up a chime or something to warn the driver other than the brake light, which is not noticeable during the day.

 

Your truck will be fine, however, this reminds me of a funny story.

My friend bought a used truck a few years ago, it was like a 98 model GMC Sierra. He called me that day and told me he bought it, and to come see it later. When I got there he said "man, I would be proud to show you my new truck, but something is already wrong with it" I asked what the problem was, and he told me that when you gave it gas, it barely wanted to go, and when he drove for awhile, he could "smell something burning" in the cab. Also when he went through a puddle of water, he saw a bunch of steam shooting out from under the truck. I asked him were any lights on, and he said yeah, "the brake light is on, I guess it is something wrong with the brakes." He said he had already called a tow truck to come get it the next morning. I asked if he minded if I looked at it and he said no. As soon as I turned the key on, I saw the "brake" light with the big exclamation point behind it. I found the e brake lever, pulled it, and it popped loose. That baby was pushed to the floor. He drove around all day like that. I guess the thought that his ebrake was on never crossed his mind... needless to say it was new pads and drums for the back. I still laugh at him about that to this day!!

 

Manufacturers started using idiot lights instead of gauges because people wouldn't pay attention to gauges and didn't know what they meant. Now we need chimes to alert people to look at their idiot lights? Do we really want to be on the same road as these people?

 

Funny thing is...11 months and 18,000 miles into my truck and i dont think I have ever even used the parking brake!

 

i have used my parking brake twice but it goes to the floor...someone here said adjust it but why should i need to adjust it if it hasn't been used but twice? and then how do you adjust it? crappy @ss brakes anyway!!!

 

Ditto! On my last truck, a Silverado, their design was such that if you did not use the E brake regularly, it would get off center and eat up the Ebrake shoes. I did not know that and it cost me over $400 in repairs. I notified GM how dumb the design was and told them I would be buying a Ford next time. They sent me a refund for the $400, I bought the Ford anyway.

 

Thats funny. Side note though I think mine is sticking because I release it and drive off and the rear vibrates like crazy for about two miles and then stops.
