??? on Xcal 2

I called customer service at Troyer Performance...cause I am thinking about getting Xcal 2 after sluggish performance with my truck (reflash didn't help). CS rep told me that if I mod e.g. exhaust, air, tire size. etc after Xcal 2 install, that I have to have new updated programs installed (which requires me to notify Troyer Performance of the upgrades/mods done in order to get the most out of Xcal 2). In other words, unlike 1714 tuner, where you simply connect and re-input new config to new mod. Xcal 2 requires supplier/programmer to recalibrate for all the new mods....is this true? If so, does it cost $$$ for every recalibration? I know I forgot to ask the rep on this part of the question....but hope to catch Mike himself on this site.

Yes it is true, every time you add mods after installing Xcal2 you have to call them up and tell them what you installed. Then they send the info via email, so as far as costing money, no I don't think it cost a thing since it's going though your email. I read this info somewhere, maybe troyerperformance site, can't remember. Hope this helps.

The 1714 tuner is kind of a "one size fits all unit", where the Xcal 2 is custom make for your truck with your specifics.

Yes, but I'm pretty sure you have to pay for the new tune though. You also need to pay the extra $70 to recieve tunes via email.

That's what I thought....$70 for via email update. However does that include all of the future updates for per email...cause it could get very expensive if you were to mod each one at a time. It would be best to have all other mods done and other Xcal 2. I think I'll wait for my rims and tires and then go with Xcal...to save some $$$ on reprograming

im not trying to stir anything up here, so nobody bash on me. BamaChips does not charge money for modified tunes and does not charge money to be able to recieve and load your own tunes VIA email. The changes to a performance tune would be minor anyway, with simple bolt ons, not like they would have to write a whole new tune.

You are all speculating. Mods like tire size can be done on your own. As far as the other questions, drop a dime and CALL TROYER AND ASK THEM, they will be happy to answer all your questions. That way you dont get a bunch of false information.

I don't know if any of these SCT dealers like Troyer, BAMA, or Alternativeauto just program the Xcal2 for you, or if they actually give you the .xtr file (the tune.) But if they provide you with that .xtr file you can make minor adjustments with SCT Flash
I am actually considering a Xcal2 from Alternativeauto just because they are the only tuner that I have seen which actually has a dyno graph for there tunes. I am sure that the others are fully competent, but I can't understand why, with all the testing they do, that neither one has actually posted a dyno graph of there tunes. I only hear it from a third party.

i cant speak for others because i dont know, but doug at bamachips will send you NEW tunes if you do some different mods and he believes one is necessary.

as far as the dyno tuning, im learning that just recently the X2 is opening up all sorts of features that i didnt know about or werent even originally advertised

I don't think their dyno graph is all that impressive. I have a hard time believing that all these guys that got the Xcal2 are raving about a 13hp gain.

That is at PEAK hp and tq, if you look along the graph they made way more hp and tq than that in different rpm ranges as well as flattened it out a bit.

Why do you need the dyno graph? No two are ever alike that I have ever seen. Most times they only cause someone that is not familiar with them to become even more confused. Anyone can put a graph and numbers on paper to intreague someones interest in their product.Your vehicle more than likely will not respond exactly as the vehicle they tested to achieve the graph....

I guess I am more of a see it, to believe it person. Anybody can tell you they have a 12" pecker, but a picture proves it without doubt. Now, I don't doubt for a second that everyone is getting significant gains from their tune, and I understand that every tune vary will by driving style, computer code, etc.. This is just the first, and only company that has shown me actual dyno reults. All the way from 900 to 5000 RPM. How hard can it be for the others to publish a graph of their dyno results?

From my experience dealing with TP, and email updates, he doesn’t charge for basic updates/tweaks. The charge comes in when he has to do completely new tunes for your truck (adding a supercharger, etc would need NEW tunes)
