Truck would not start....

I had my truck in on Wednesday. They were able to duplicate the problem and they reprogrammed my PCM. I told them I already had it reflashed and she said its not the same and there were some updates that I needed. I don't know if this will help anybody. Only time will tell if it fixed my truck.

Hmmm, If it happens to my truck again, I will take it in and ask them to do this for me. It hasn't happened again since July 21, 2006. I am hoping that when it does happen again, it just simply will not crank back up and I can call Ford and ask them to come and get it.
Good luck guys, hopefully together we can solve this mystery ailment.
Well, don't bother about asking to have your PCM reprogrammed. I went to start my truck yesterday and it sounded like the engine was gonna blow up. I'm taking it back again on Wednesday. I think I'm going to start looking up the lemon laws or investigate having them buy back my truck. In over a year of dealing with this no one has yet to crawl under my truck and look for anything mechanically wrong with it.
bring it back and tell them to flash the PCM with the latest calibration
My truck has been in the shop since Wednesday. From the way I described it to him the master mechanic decided that it is indeed a mechanical problem and he thinks its caused by raw fuel sitting in the cylinders. He wants to replace all eight of my fuel injectors. He has to get permission from ford to do that though, latest update to me was that Ford wants him to do a really expensive test to see if there is indeed raw fuel in there.
They rented me a 2007 Chevy 1500 to drive
...it rides very nice, the seat are a ton more comfy too...hmmm.. hehehe j/k
Don't know if these trucks will work this way, but when this problem comes up have you tried flooring the gas to see if it will do anything? Sounds like an idle system issue or a fuel issue.. Or the controller for them.. Like when it's cranking just floor the gas to see if it will change the sound or think about starting.. I'm sure you have, just checking.. These electronic gas pedals may not let this work while cranking.. Not sure..
I've only had it actually had it catch and start once, usually it just sounds like somethings gonna break and it stops cranking and flashes check gauges or you let go of the key out of fear
The one time it did start I didn't touch anyting because I wanted to see what would happen, the rpms bounced all over and after less than 10 seconds it went into normal idle.
My father has a F-150 work truck that has the same problem, he did say to give it gas and that will fix it.

My 06 XLT has the same problem. It has happened about 6 or 7 times in the 9 months and 12,000 miles I have driven it. Most recently on Thursday after fueling up. Turn the key and the starter engages, engine turns over and then sorta sounds like it kicks back......doesn't sound good to me. Never took it in but have been following this thread for quite awhile. Guess it is time to complain. Keep the posts coming. I will let you know what they say.

Just returned from the dealership where I bought my truck. 2006 F-150 XLT with the 5.4. I asked the service manager about my starting problem and he said he would see if there were any TSB's out for it. There were none. I want to add that this start condition only happens after the truck has been running and shut off to get gas or run into the store for a minute, never after sitting overnight. We talked for awhile and I told him some people on this forum had some luck with a reflash of the PGM so he offered to hook mine up this afternoon. I told him I only had today off and was going hunting after lunch and he said to just pull it in right now! So he hooked up this lap top looking diagnostic tool and he let me watch how it all worked. After awhile it came up with one item needing attention which was (memory fade here) I think it said "cold idle adjustment - correcting intermittent hard start problem". He said that sounds like the condition I was describing to him. So he finished running the program and unhooked me and I was back on my way home in 25 minuted total! Gotta say as a new first time Ford owner I was impressed with the service. I will see if this corrects my hard start problem. But since it happens so infrequently, it may take awhile to be sure. I will keep you guys posted as to how it keeps starting.

My 2005 F150 with the 4.6 has been doing this about 1-2 times a week so i took it to the dealer and they couldnt get it to do it. I expained that it only happens when you shut it off and start it back up after a little while...he said they have had a few other trucks doing it and they dont know what is causing it..The service manager recommended trying to let the motor idle 10-20 seconds before shutting it off.. He stated that if you pull in and shut it off quick the engine may not be returning to idle and pumping excess fuel into the cylinders. He said this would make it hard for the motor to fire with the large amount of fuel in there...I am going to try that for about a month and if it still does it then I will go back...I will let you know if this works

I am taking my truck in to the dealership tomorrow morning (12/11/06) and am going to have to leave my truck with them.
Does anyone know exactly what they have to do for TSB 06-19-14 NO CRANK/ STARTER TERMINAL FATIGUE?
I will let you guys know how it goes. Wish me well.
