You should have asked them to show you what the key looked like and maybe a picture of a key that was a couple of years old before you bought the truck. It could have saved all of this anguish over a poorly designed key.

Would you not care if your truck was all scratched up, because it can still haul the same load?

Hey if its a pure work truck and getting on in years then maybe you wouldn't care about the appearance, as long as it gets the job done. But in a couple month old expensive vehicle I expect a little more thats all. i'm very pleased with everything else.

On a different tangent to the key "issues," I wonder why Ford hasn't moved to an "all-in-one" solution yet. Dodge, GM, Honda, and Toyota all have keys that have the fob integrated into the key. This is quite nice in that you don't have to have two bits to get into and/or secure the vehicle when leaving. THAT's what I would be asking Ford about instead of why the key is scratching up.

And to those that make the argument that because the truck is X dollars and it should have a better key, I say that Ford cut corners in an area where MOST people could care less. I mean, really, do you sit and stare at your key? Do you show it off to others, "Look at my KEY, ain't it purdy?" And I surely hope you're not admiring it whilst driving. Then again, maybe Darwin would take over at that point.

I get compliments all the time on my truck. I keep it clean. Never have I ever heard any of my passengers say "Man this is a nice truck but your key sitting in the ignition is terrible looking" When the key starts to bring down the value of my truck....then I'll start complaining. Until then....I don't care how it looks.

On certain luxury vehicles, you don't even need a key. There is some type of sensor that knows when you are in the car based on a remote key fob and you just press a button on the dash that says START. Those are cool

Crappy lookin' keys? Some people will complain about anything and everything.

Before any of you key complainers jump on me, here's a pic of my key that has been banging around in my pocket for a year and a half.

Just to rub it in.

My God man! How can you go out in public with such horrible looking keys! Have you no pride! Have you no decency! I would rather shave my head with a cheeze grater than be seen with such an ugly key.

I saw it in one of the magazines in the billet section. It looked pretty good, it cost $25. If I can find it I will post it up.

I'm thinking there was a bad batch of keys made. Mine is only a couple of months old, I have way fewer keys on my keychain, and they are really mangled. The ones in your picture look like new. I can understand why you would think those of us with the mangled keys are just bitching about nothing. My keys do not have the blue inlaid Ford symbol.

A friend of mine and myself both have '04's.
I have an XL with the engraved key and he has an XLT with the blue oval on the key. His still looks new and mine is crap. Oh well.

And for all those that want a key with buttons keep in mind the price. A regular key at Ford is $30+ if you already have two keys. You lose one key and the price doubles. Something about the computer they use to cut keys, it needs two keys to cut a new one.
Imagine what a key with buttons inside would cost??
