Anybody tried using the stearing colum unit from a Focus? She's got one on the side of her's instead of in the center of the wheel, and I'm thinking of hooking one up to my F150 instead of changing the stearing wheel center. We both have the same radio setup, so I would think it should work?

I am trying to hard wire my radar detector in my truck.
I have an 05 Lariat with the center console.
I am trying to wire it so that the radar detector is only on when the truck is on.
Which one should I use as my power wire?
I cant seem to find one that is only on when the ignition is on.

In my old truck I used the power wire from the cigarette lighter.
Don't know if that would work in this truck.
What do you think?
Thanks for the help.

If you don't mind a little extra time, wire it to the dome light and mount it to the bottome of the compass below the mirror. It almost disapears, and times out with the 40 min. timer. Got a so so pic in my gallery, https://www.f150online.com/galleries....cfm?gnum=6215

Good luck!

I think the real asinatra has been abducted by aliens.

I do agree he has been full off very usefull and helpful information lately!

I prefer the new asinatra, the aliens can keep the old one.

Wire it to the Light Green-Yellow. Hooking it up there will leave it on until you open the door.

Thumbs up

hey everyone,
I just wanted to thank you all for the information on wiring provided in these forums.

It has helped me tremendously, and had made my mods clean, removable, and effective.

I just hooked up Sirius radio with PIE connector, and I split the RCA's for my Ipod

for power I used a cigarette lighter power splitter, and wired it in with 5 amp fuse link, so the original car power supply for satellite radio and I-pod are not compromised.

I mounted thefuse link and teh two cig-lighter connectors under dash on left side of glove box, nice vertical support that you can get to by just pulling glove box all the way down, service fuse etc.

I tapped into the wire listed here for the auto off feature.

Again, thanks to all for the information provided here.
