Rotors all the way around.

I just had to replace my pads and rotors all the way around, $1100. I only have 34,000 miles but I live in a area with alot of traffic. What has anyone else been getting out of their rotors. I tried to do a search but didn't find much info.

B.T.W. Does anyone make a quality cross-drilled, or slotted, or cryo rotors for our trucks? Also what about good pads with stopping power, but not so harsh?

$1100? What the hell, are they gold plated rotors with diamond encrusted studs? Get another quote.

Sounds like he already had it done. Traffic or no traffic, 4 new rotors within 34k miles? Ouch

For that price, you should have got cross-drilled slotted brakes with Porterfield pads....
If your rotors were under spec (not "turnable") after 34K, you have MAJOR brake problems...

Who did the work for you, and where did you get the parts?

To bad that those rotors only have five lugs, I know my 04 has six lugs.

I had the same problem, but with 20k miles. Ford Dealer (in orlando) cut my front rotors back in feb, had to replace them recently @ 20k miles. According to the ford dealer up here (brooklyn, ny), i needed new pads all around & new rotors all around. I had to fight with them to get them to warranty the front ones (since another dealer cut them w/i 12k miles warranty). I went to a mechanic/gas station who everyone trusts, but is a little steep. He did front pads, rear pads & rear rotors. Wound up to be like 500 an change. Now ford wont warranty the rotors since theyre aftermarket. They never warranty the pads either way. Id rather have this guy get rich off me than a ford dealership who knows nothing at all.

Seeing how many of you have spent so much getting this done makes me beg the question, how many of you actually know a thing or two about fixing cars and actually work on there?

I would not pay $1100 unless my tranny went out. I had a firestone store tell me once I needed brakes on my ranger (which Ill admit I did, but I took it there for a allignment). They wanted like $600 all around, and they were only going to turn the rotors.

Turns out the rotors were warped, but they were covered since I buy lifetime parts for my trucks.

First time I did the brakes on that truck I got lifetime rotors and cheep pads. The next time (about 25,000 later) I got rotors from bosch and pads from bosch, both lifetime covered. Almost 40,000 on these and they are still fine. Cost, under $200.

Never go with the first price givin to you. Go to a few places and if they are all close thats one thing, but $1100 is nuts, for all 4 a shop should charge no more then $450 for OE quality parts.

Anyone use a torque wrench on their lugs??? In some cases having different torques on your lugs will increase the odds of warping a rotor. Another good way to warp them is getting them cut. I've never had a rotor cut, if it's bad enough to truly need cut, just replace it. Not everyone may agree with me, to each their own, but this is what works for me. I've had rotors last over 8 yrs and 90K miles. Just my two pennies worth.
