STX VIN on XLT?

I have been meaning to ask this for a while now, but am just now remembering to do so. When giving my VIN to the insurance people, it came back saying my truck is an STX. Clearly my truck is an XLT. Has anybody else come across this? It may be helpful in the long run as they might think I have a smaller engine (not sure how much difference the 4.6 makes on insurance rates compared to the 5.4, probably not much, if any).

Sorry if this has been covered before, the search proved to be useless.

The main reason your insurance rate would be cheaper is that the value of the STX would be lower than that of a XLT. If you insure your truck as an STX and it gets totaled or stolen they will only pay you for the value of a STX not an XLT. So you are better off getting insurance on what you have. ALSO if you give wrong info at the time the insurance is written, if you ever havea claim they could very easily refuse to pay it.

When I gave the VIN to my insurance agent she said I had a Lariat, I said no I have an XLT. Somewhere along the lines these VIN numbers are getting mixed up because she had to manually input the vehicle info. Insurance for a Lariat was more than the XLT. I made sure she got it right so I didnt overpay.

You should of totaled the truck with gap insurance and get a lariat.

Why have anything at all (other than liability) if you arent going to insure it for what its worth? Your paying for XL coverage not Lariat coverage...so if it gets stolen or totaled you will get paid for an XL not a Lariat. Liability should be the same on any car you driver....the increased premium is related on collision is related to the covered value of the truck.
