Inside door panel removal

Hi folks. I'm new to online forums, so forgive me if I don't yet know all the rules and such. From looking around here for a few days it seems like there a lot of great folks here. I'll learn!

I have a great new 2005 ext. cab XLT. I want to install new speakers, among other things, but am not seeing how the inside door panels come off. I tried the basics like gentle prying, but did not have success. I have installed audio systems in previous trucks, but this is my first F-150. I would hate to find out the hard way that I am not doing things right!

I didn't see anything specific to my needs when searching the forums, but since I'm a newbie I may not be searching as effectively as possible, so advice on that subject is appreciated as well.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Assuming this is like an 04 and you're just replacing the speakers, you only need to pry off the trim around the speakers from the door panel. You don't have to remove the whole door panel. I just use a flathead and gently pry the speaker trim away from the door panel. Good luck!

There are a few bolts for the x-cab that need to be removed. Here's some pix. Once they are removed, the skin slides up and out.

This one's under the electric window button.

I just replaced the front and rear door speakers in my Supercab yesterday. As others have said, the silver speaker trim on the front doors simply pries off. The rear doors, you'll need a 6mm and 10mm socket; remove the little cover under the inside door handle with a small screwdriver, it just pries out. Remove the two 6mm bolts underneath it and remove the door handle. Pull the upper trim off on either side of the window, they're secured by spring clips, just pull. Two 6mm bolts on top, one on the bottom. Pry the window switch bezel loose with a small screwdriver and remove the one 10mm bolt underneath the bezel. After that, the whole panel lifts up and out.

I really appreciate all the input. The inside of my truck looks a littel different than the pictures provided by TXF150, but the speaket grill material is the same, so I'll be trying again in a few minutes. I tried prying them off last night, but they did not pop right off and I was concerned about breakage, so I chickened out.

This forum seems really great! I appreciate the help.

Can someone tell me how I put in the information about my truck like I see in a lot of the posts?

Thanks to all.

I should have been more specific. I had not tried the front speaker grills until just now - I was looking at the rears. I went out and popped the fronts right off - just like in the picture above. But I also have one rear speaker grill with a broken mounting - I was in a hurry to get out there and try it, so I didn't read farther down to the post about removing the rear door panels. Live and learn, right?!

Thanks again!

Figure I'll bump this old post and keep everything centralized instead of creating a new thread... I just wanted to add/clarify a bit:

This is an '05 supercab. Here's an image with the screws you need to remove circled in red.

There are 2 screws up top (6mm) that are hidden by the two upper pieces of inside trim. Those two pieces snap off if you pull them out directly, no screws on them. Once you remove them, you'll see the two screws holding the bottom panel on.

There is a small plug covering up 2 more 6mm screws behind the door handle. Use a flat-head screwdriver in the top of that panel to pop it off and remove those two screws.

Snap the power window panel up, unplug the power window switch, there's a silver bolt there (8mm).

The last bolt is a 6mm on the underside of the lower panel. Nothing to remove to get to this one, just unscrew it.

After you remove those, just lift the panel up and you're done. Getting the panels back on is straight forward, dare I say it'd be impossible to mess up if you were able to get the panel off.

This might help also, remove items in order (1 thru 10) then the door panel lifts straight up and off.
