Add me to the list of owners that are not complaining that a truck does not get the mpg of a Honda.....

Actually just piecing a system together. The boards with cooling and cpu are under a 100 through pricewatch, the power supply is about 40.

I have boxes of hard drives, ram, but it would only cost about 12 bucks for ram through computergeeks, and hard drives are in the twenty dollar range, but I will use a notebook 32 gig from my leftover stack.

I have lots of spare dvd readers, but you can buy em for the 10-15 range.

The 'bug' for GPS seem to go on e-bay for 20-120 so it's mostly a matter of low balling one till I get it.

Software is not a problem to anyone that uses computers and the net...

So anyway the wireless track ball and keyboard are the most expensive, but I might get an integrated mouse keyboard instead.
I have looked at a couple in the 30-50 range.
I can mount this thing in compartment under the center seat, when I put that back in.
Since I already have the monitor it's just a matter of stringing 12 volts, and the video output.

And to stay on topic, I figure a GPS nav system with voice will pay for itself in gas miles not wasted.
At least that's what I tell the wife...
Chris

Chris

I was a Subway last night for dinner and the keyboard that was attached to the register was made of silicone and could roll up.....it was a pretty sweet deal....I would think that it could work perfectly for something like this....but I would not have any idea where to find one....it was yellow....so in order for it to fit perfectly in the vehicle, it would have to be in a better color.....

If you are looking for a keyboard like this, take a look at Man & Machine's offerings - made in the USA:
http://www.man-machine.com/

I installed one of their CoolOne waterproof keyboards on a laser burner at work - keeps dust, grease, and potato chips out of the keyboard. The CoolOne is not flexible, but it might work for your application (about $100). Their CoolThree model is flexible and a bit less expensive.

Chris: let me know how your project works out - it sounds like an interesting project.
