I'm shopping around for a truck tool box to go in the back of the truck. I want the kind that crosses over the bed and clamps to the bed rails. Don't want the deep one.

I'm trying to decide between the single and double lid. I want it in black. I like the ease of closing and opening of the double lid. But like the versatility of the single lid. Want metal diamond plate.

Are there any brands to stay away from out there? Any cheap crap? I've seen Kobalt and Husky in Lowe's and Home Depot. I want to stay under $300. I won't be carrying any expensive tools in there. It'll be more utilized for sporting equipment.

Any suggestions on brands and lid configuration? And if so, where to get it?

Ive got a UWS box that is a single lid and i love it. Its a lox profile so it doesn't block any of the rear window.

 

Is there a website to check those out on?

 

UWS is top of the line, it'll be my choice when the time comes around.

Damn! I have to go all the way to Maryland for the closest dealer. Do these boxes, meet my under $300 criteria? If it's top of the line, I'm assuming no.

 

I have the single lid husky and for me its great. I can put my tools I need for work, some auto tools just in case I need them, I have some dry food like chips & cookies for my daughters and there toys. It's a deep box but not as deep as the kobalt, I tried them both the kobalt hit the top of the tire well, and the husky is about an inch and a half above it.

Ive got the same one and works fine. I wanted one of the UWS boxes because I thought they where a bit more sturdy. But after comparing them, there wasnt much difference. Besides, the UWS, like the one in the pick, was around $500, from the only place in town that sold them. The Kobalt/Better Built with hardware was less than $250.
Id say get the Kobalt, and use the other $250 for tools to put inside it.

 

Redneck- they were trying to rob you on the UWS, I got mine plus the cost of getting it rhinolined for 375.

 

Husky is also sturdy, strong and durable no drilling and for $170 and the one I got doesn't come with handles it comes with a push button. People at work that all had the handle boxs all switched to the push button, for many reasons like you don't have to reach into the bed to open it, the button is on the side. Even to lock it you don't have to reach, And one complant that all of them said was that like after just 6 months to a year, the handles started to mal****ion, and they had to start slamming the lid just to close it, and had to keep juggeling the handle to open it. Push button, just like many things are the way to go.

 

I have a CMI toolbox. It is a low pro black box and looks exactly like the UWS box. It was 269 from my local line-x dealer. Quality is top notch... They are local here in FL so i dont know if the line X places up there have them or not... But it is worth a shot. If i ever find my digital camera i will throw up some pictures.

I have a single lid Delta low profile and love it. Bought at Sams Club for $150.00 including j hooks.

 

Anybody have the chest tool boxes? The kind that don't sit on the bed rails. I want one of those and I was wondering how they looked.

 

mine was $275 at my rhino liner dealer. they can ship them to your buisness direct i believe too. you can only get the push button in the regular box - not the low pro. also the best way for a no-drill install is by "j" bolts from your local hardware store. $3 versus the $15-20 for the no drill kit
