1st Time in 4X4 what the..........?

So My truck(see sig) is new (just turned 1100 miles) , labor day weekend going to do some off roading. I shift to 4X4 Hi. all is well. having fun. I stop put her in low lock and the light on the dash says 4X4 Lo. I take off slow and I'm thinking this is not very low, this sucks, and I get up to about 25 mph and it slams ( and I mean slams) into low range. I get out expecting to see oil pouring from the transmittion or transfere case. I cant believe nothing broke. I drive a little ways in low range and it seams to still work ok. so I go back to 2X and that still works ok, so I try 4X Hi. its ok, and try 4X low again, same crap only I did not speed up that much. what gives anyone else had this problem?

Did you put it in neutral first, before switching to 4x4 Low? You must...

Yes, I stopped turned selector to 4X4 Lo and put the trans in neutral then back in drive, just as the owners manual said. I an new to this electronic stuff, I miss the machanical shifter on the floor.

Oh by the way the little wrench symbol came on on the dash. it stayed lit until I shut the truck off. When I restarted, it was out. Do you think it through a code?

Nice dash!

Truck must be in neutral FIRST...then flip to 4x4 Lo.

The wrench light (as I understand it) is a transmission malfunction indicator.

Put the truck in neutral first. Then switch the 4wd to the desired setting. Give it about 15 seconds first to engage.

For the record im not crazy bout the Lariat gauges. They are a little older person looking for me, i like my fx4 gauges.

That is weird thow bout your trans.
So it slammed into low range when you put it into low range at first did it clunk a little??? when you started did it seem lower at all? My truck when its in low range will snap your neck and ive never taken it above maybe 15mph.
Glad it didnt break and leave you stuck out there.

Back to the topic, your truck MUST be in park or neutral (stopped) before switching into 4LO and your wheels MUST be all going the same speed before switching into 4HI.
