new PCM computer update results

To date, I have Airforce One intake mod only. the other day my truck went in for the headliner recall (which didn't work!), and I asked them to hook it up to see if there was a PCM (??) update for my truck. They said it took an update. It seems to be running much better / harder. I don't recall what RPM it shifted at before, but it will go to 5000 to 6000 rpm's before it shifts out of 1st. the only problem is that it sometimes shifts TOO hard! anyone else experience this after the update?
Also, sometimes it will "pop", like back fire from the engine area when taking off. It doesn't sound good, but it has only happened once or twice since last Friday.
Has anyone else experienced this or have advise for me? Will a tuner / exhaust help these issues (shift points, airflow??)
I don't know much about the technical aspects except for what I read on the forums.
Any advise / help is appreciated.
Thanks!

I dunno how you're driving, but I'd take it out on a 5-7 mile highway ride. It's trying to relearn fuel trims and trans tables, and sometimes adaptive strategy won't take effect just puttering around town. Run it up to about 65 or so, let it coast down to 45 with your foot off the gas, do that three times.

Are you sure on the 1-2 shift point??? I know of NO Ford PCM update that would take the RPM anywhere near those thresholds....The maximum I have ever seen or heard of on any aftermarket (safe) tune is 5400-5500, and thats with all the other perimaters set in accordance to that....And the
"popping" noise you hearing does not sound good at all.....I think I would have that vehicle looked at ASAP...

I dont think it was a recall just a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin)...Also see the link below for the TSB # or you can try it yourself...

had my pcm relashed just a few weeks ago. I am happy with it no probs. I have yet to try to get the rpms up that high yet. I think Quintin is probably right about it learning the fuel trims. give a week or two if the symptoms continue see the dealer. if it pops like that too much more I would definitely get it in. good luck
