i tinted mine about 2 months ago. I also did my 3rd brake light. I hated that big white light on the roof of my dark truck. I had the spray tint on my explorer for years and help up perfect. I have never cleared them and they are a semi gloss when im done spraying. I used nite shades as well.

Where do I find this Night Shades product? I would like to do mine also, but would probably clear them.

What kind of prep work to the tail light before applying the tint?

thanks

You can get the Nite Shades right out of summitracing.com. That was were I got mine from. IMO, the lights look much better when you clear them, flows with the shine of the rest of the truck.

There isn't much prep work involved before applying. All I did was to clean the lights with rubbing alcohol. Then, I took 1600 grit wet sand paper, and wet sanded the lights smooth. They were already smooth, but wetsanding them just helps adhere the paint better. Once you wetsand, clean again with rubbing alcohol. Make sure the alcohol is completely wiped off and dry before spraying.

I applied three coats to my lights. The more coats the darker, so spray until you get the desired darkness. If you wante the lights to look REALLY smooth you could wetsand between coats, but takes much longer. You can get them to look just as good by not wetsanding if you take care and time to spray the lights right. When you are done spraying the shades, let it dry and clear. Three coats of clear should do you, and then let them dry and install! If you take care and time, you lights will come out looking great! Hope I could help!
You can see how my lights came out in the beginning of this thread.

Thanks for the info, I have a body guy that is willing to clear them as long as i don't tell anyone who did it. He doesn't want to mess with this type of stuff.

I seen a sweet black f150 yesterday that blacked out his lights but left the turn signal clear and it looks 10x better then doing it all, I think thats what im going to do on my white truck. It should match up pretty well it being that my truck is white and my tint is really dark.

Reverse lights?

The turns are hooked into the brakes.

I just tinted mine this afternoon with the film kit from ebay. It was very easy and turned out nice. Though the first light that I did did not turn out as nice as the second but still it looks good. I will post pics after I wash the truck.

Im planning on 20" demoda intimidator (black) rims with 33" Toyo MT tires. I also really want to paint my flares... I think when you go all black the Plastic sticks out. I am also interested in smoking or tinting the tail lights.

anyway... i just thought it was funny to see you posting over here since i have been looking at your truck over there.

Nice work on it by the way... looks awesome, Ill get some pictures of mine up once i get it done!

Its cool to know my truck is admired! thanks bro. I love how unique my 04 is and hope to keep addin on the mods. The only thing that drives me crazy is that the orange reflector in the headlight is unaccessable otherwise itd be painted black. Id buy some black headlights but im saving all my money to put towards a 6 inch lift and 37's (and 4.56's... $$$$$) Anyway lets see some pics once ur truck is done! Itd be cool to see another similar to mine finally!
