Good luck!
Take it to a glass shop or dealer and get them todo it as there is a very good chance they will brake your windshield in the process. That happened to me when i switched out my factory rearview mirror with an aftermarket one.

I did the samething, go somewhere and have them do it, not worth the hassle and frustration.

The tint shop tried to remove mine with the specialized tool for the job, and managed to break my windshield as well. All for the better though, I was able to get a free new windshield and get rid of that gawd awful F-150 etching on the top of the glass.

Be prepared to have whoever takes it off to replace your front windshield, you might even want to ask them if they will do so before they start the work. The glue they used on these mirrors have some sort of special powers to keep them attached to the glass.

Yay!

That makes me feel better that i am not the only stupid one around trying unsucessfully to pull the mirror off without proper know how.

I too took a chunk out of my window when i did it.

I was originally trying to move it up from the stock location b.c the extra wide 12" mirror was creating a massive blind spot for me. A car could seriously hide completly behind my mirror. (I am 6'6" and sit up high in my truck!)

Ne who when i got my window replaced I asked them to take the clip off before they installed it and showed them where i wanted it glued back on. They had no problem with me doing that.

Thanks for listening

figured it out. there's a banding type clamp around the middle...left to right. it pops off and the mirror comes off easily. and clip goes on last to install. of coarse the metal piece stays with the window.

All you guys that broke the window, were you trying to remove the whole thing, even the piece that is glued to the window?? You can't just pull that thing off, you are supposed to remove the mirror and leave the metal piece stuck to the window like he did ^ .

May I ask you to explain this in a little bit detail for me? What kind of tool do I need and how do I use it to disengage the clamp? Thanks.

i used a small screwdriver and something between it and the glass to pop the band off first.
