04/05 PowerStroke Diesel F-150 spotted in CT

Just read a post one of our mustang club members posted on our board-

and this is what he had to say!!!!!

"I was at an intersection in Bristol and heard a nice diesel rumble, but I couldnt tell where it was coming from. The only other vehicle around was an '05/06 F150 extended cab, bright red, FX4, on the intersecting road. Well, his light turned green and there was definately a diesel screamin under the hood, and on the fenders sat the same Powerstroke emblems they put on the Super-Duty.

Normally, I'd pass it off as a toy somebody built when they blew the gas job out of their half-ton. However, being that its a nice shiney new truck, I dont expect that anyone would buy one just to pull the engine and drop in the 6.0. Especially considering that the truck looked dead stock.

So did they finally get smart and offer the diesel in an F150? Any word on concepts or prototypes?
I've looked around a little online, asked around town, no info. Any ideas? "

and then

" found it again!!!
He was at an exxon on rt.6 tonight, AT THE DIESEL PUMP.
Of course I never have a camera when I need it.
Anyway, he's from New Brunswick. As the story goes, he's got an HVAC shop, and an employee rolled one of the company's E350's (yeah, a van). So he yanked the 7.3, a few junkyard runs, some custom fabrication, a body lift, and a lot of money later, thats what he built.
It looks like your average '05 F150, bright red, extended cab, he added FX4 Level II decals from a Ranger. Other than that, it looks pretty well stock, except the body lift, and the cowl hood, the 5" exhaust, and the SOLID front axle... "

Boy would I love to do that to mine... but never will.... I have to keep a lookout for this truck on my way to work every morning. Anyone on here know this guy??????

I bet it is sweet, but I think it would be easier to just trade up to the 250.

I'm trying to follow-up on the rumors that a 4.5 PSD F-150 is due out in 2007.....anybody out there know any of the details?

The 4.5 v6 is in production and listed in the Navistar web site, just not as an available version for the F-150 line.....

the v6 u speak of is being released in our new cab over delivery truck that will be out soon, our local Ford training instructor told me is has 220-225 hp with 400 ftlbs and maybe offered in the F-150 in 2007. the sticking factor with Ford is from what i understand is they don't want the F-150 diesel to compete with the superduty sales. but we mya still see it.

Mac.

Do you guys know what the LCF is? It is our new commercial truck (Low Cab Forward), looks like the Isuzu NPR. We used to make these years ago, then dropped it, and Isuzu picked it up. Now Ford is making it again. The motor, which is a V6 DIESEL, should make its way into the F-150, and also into the new BRONCO concept vehicle. I can hardly wait!

A diesel in an F150 would be sweet.
I can already see a banks programmer, exhaust, intake, the turbo whine......ahhh sweet, and still have my console shift, and all the F150 styling. I'm sold, when can I order?

nope.not gonna happen.

the 4.5 V6 is the 6.0 V8 with 2 cyl removed.

So why would they put this in the F150 when the 6.0 is being replaced with a 6.4 diesel?

This was a potential option at one point but Ford backed away from the deal.

There have been other rumors that other diesel manufacturers were being approached to supply a light duty engine for the F150 (Deere and Cat were 2 names mentioned)

The 4.5 will only ever see duty in the LCF.

An F150 diesel with the right gearing that could potentially get 25 to 30 MPG's? That would make to much sense, ford would never do that. The first manufacturer to do that would clean up. The big 3 still havent learned if they build what people want they will buy it.

The stock chasis of the F-150s can't handle the weight of the diesel engine! I would love a diesel f150, but it's not going to happen because they'd have to have totally different chasis for the Diesel engine ones and the Gas engine trucks!

The real holdup on a diesel F-150 is the EPA. Currently diesel fuel has a high sulfur content, today's diesel engines will not meet light duty truck EPA standards. In 2006-2007 diesel fuel is being changed to have a low sulfer content. When this happens it clears the way for a diesel engine in a half-ton truck. The low sulfur fuel will produce much cleaner exhaust. The other problem is particulate emmisions, diesel fuel produces carbon particles that go out the tailpipe. The U.S. has very tight emissions standards for particulate emissions, currently there are filter/mufflers in development to overcome this hurdle. The F-250 is a medium duty truck so it is not required to meet any of these guidelines. Once the new diesel fuel is introduced I expect to see a horde of new oil burners. The big three all have EU spec small engines that are quiet, get great MPG and are currently in production. I would be very suprised if they are not imported in the near future.

Ford has been looking for a company to build a 6 cyl diesel motor for the f-150 they were hoping to hav eone by 06 but puched it back till who knows when.
John Deere
Caterpillar
and Detroit Diesel were all being considered.

The stock chasis of the F-150s can't handle the weight of the diesel engine!
---Are you sure???

My uncle was saying that Ford will be killing the current super duty line possibly in favor of producing all pick up trucks from top to bottomn with different variations of the 150 platform, beefed up shocks larger crap etc.

Ill stick with my gasoline really just dont like diesel.
