Question Lift Questions... could use some help!

I bought a 2005 F-150 FX4 Supercab a few months ago. I was thinking of putting a 6 inch lift on it before i even got it. I have seen pictures from this site of members trucks and they look great lifted.

I have searched the message boards and still havent found a good answer to my question. I am leaning towards the fabtech 6 inch lift after reading some posts and I beleive I will be going with 35 inch tires but that is still up in the air. My biggest question is what will happen to my factory warranty? What are other members doing when they need warranty work done after they put a lift on. Now I understand some parts of the vehicle may no longer be covered. But what happens if I have an engine problem or something that can't be blamed entirely on my lift kit? Will my dealer still do warranty work or will they refuse? Are all these lifted truck owners just taking a gamble by voiding their factory warranty? Has anyone gotton a dealer to do warranty work on a lifted truck?

I would like to hear what you guys, especially the ones who lifted a truck still under warranty, have to say about this.

Any help, advice or thoughts would be great. Thanks

Really, the answer is "it depends". It depends on your dealership. Some are very mod friendly and some seem to be looking for an excuse to void a warranty. I've read posts from both extremes. I've heard of guys who had Lightning tear up at the drag strip and towed to a dealer with racing slicks still on it and never had a problem. I've also read members who had dealerships tell them they would void their warranty if they install a tire one size larger than stock. I would suggest talking to your dealership and see what their attitude is. If they give you a hard time, leave and never go back. Then, go to another dealership.

^^ i'll agree. when i started thinking about lifting mine i called the dealer, thinking that he would say it would void the warrenty. all he said was it was still under warrenty, bring it by after you get it done i want to see it.

it really depends on the dealership, some are good and others are not, hope you got a good one

I agree with wandell. Let me add this...I've had experience with a few 4x4 shops and this is my 4th lifted truck. I've had better luck with my dealer when I've purchased my truck lifted already through them. My particular dealer goes through 4 Wheel Parts dealer services. I just tell them what I want, what I'm willing to pay and the dealer does the neogiating with them. What isn't covered through the dealer is usually covered through 4 Wheel Parts. Also, the Service Manager told me he would be hard pressed to deny warranty work and blame an aftermarket mod for failure. He mods his truck out as well.

I will call a few dealers around town today and see what they have to say. Is 4wheel parts a good place to get it installed?

It depends. Some 4Wheel Parts are great while others blow! I'd research your local one.

I agree again. I've spent ALOT of money over the years with mine so I get treated pretty good. Also, not all dealers will go through 4 Wheel Parts...my particular dealer does.
