Oil consumption 2005 5.4

I have 2005 ford f150 with the 5.4 liter engine. I bought It with 2 miles on the truck. I changed the engine oil at 1500 miles with mobil 1 5/20 and a mobil oil filter. I am at 3100 miles and I checked the oil level and I was down 3/4 of a quart.
I was just wondering If this was normal, being the truck Is new or If I should be concerned.
I'm planning on changing the oil at 4000 miles and then every 4000-5000 miles after that.
Just a note once a week I do a delivery route about 75 miles and 85 stops and the truck runs about 4 hours without being turned off.
I waited for the truck to have 1500 miles on It before I started this route.

No spots In driveway...

When oil was changed Oil was filled to the second spot on the dipstick
I just added 3/4 of a quart of oil to fill It back to that spot.

Any comments or suggestions would be great.
Thank You

I have an 04 and 05 both with the 5.4. The oil level never changes, always at the second dot on the dipstick. The only thing that changes is the color of the oil - from the beautiful golden color when first put in to black after 3,000 miles. I would get this looked at, the stealership should be able to run a pressure check to determine if there is a leak.

When you park it at your house, do you ever have oil spots under your parking area?

When you say it is down 3/4 of a quart, do you mean it is 3/4 of the way down between the max and add line? When you changed the oil, how many quarts did you put in? Did you add until it came to the full line or just put in the 7 quarts? Mine after an oil change reads about halfway between max and add with 7 quarts. Per the owners manual, that is where I leave it. May go down a little between oil changes, but not much.

You might want to have let the factory oil sit in there longer. Sounds like the seal rings may not have had a chance to wear in yet. I'd try putting conventional oil back in there for 3-5k miles and then put in the M1.

Funny, the EXACT thing happend to me. Same mileage filter, etc. When I changed the oil at the 5000 mark, I was down a little more that half a quart too. Since then, I've been using Wix filters, and haven't had any problems. The one thing I did notice is that the Mobil1 filter was bigger thatn the Wix and Motorcraft. I can't say that it is half a quart bigger, but that is the only thing I can come up with.

FWIW -- a lot of the guys who frequent the forums over at www.bobistheoilguy.com have noticed that oil consumption seems to go up when they switch to the Mobil 1 product. It just seems to be a characteristic of the product (?).

I have mine changed at the dealer, 5-20 Motorcraft. I always check it before I leave to see if it is at the full mark. It does not move off that spot in 4000 miles. It was like that from purchase and I have 10,800 miles on it now.

I've put over 2,500 miles on my truck in the past 6 weeks. No oil consumption what-so-ever. And that is not ******* it but a few times full throttle acceleration getting onto the interstate over 4,000 rpm's and driving 90mph a few times.

I changed the factory oil at 5,000 miles without consumption of oil. As so far, it's not showing noticeable consumption of oil. Replaced factory oil with the same (Motorcraft 5W-20).

By the way, where did you find Mobil1 5W-20 oil?

AutoZone down here in Texas keeps it on hand. I've also seen it as some Wal-Marts, although not every one seems to carry it.

You really need to do an oil and filter change, adding seven quarts and marking your dipstick to read full wherever it reads when you are finished (after running the engine and letting the oil settle for ten minutes). Don't use the full mark on the dipstick until you have verified that it actually marks seven quarts, they rarely do. If you bring it to the dealer, the first thing they will do is change the oil and mark the dipstick.
