Break-In Period Info?

Are there any good FAQ's or links to read up on proper ways to break the truck in?

This is my first new vehicle.. I want to make sure I do everything right to break the vehicle in properly.. 892 miles on it today (502 when I received it two days ago).

Your owners manual is the best source of info.

The break in period I believe is only a thousand miles anyways, all they really want you to do as with any new motor is drive it at varying speeds to let the rings seat correctly or whatever, so at almost 900 miles everythings probably pretty much in place.

Yep -- at almost 900 miles your way beyond the point of breaking it in -- whatever has been done to the engine (good or bad) has pretty much already been done.

It is your first new vehicle, and you got it with 502 miles on it, was it a demo or something?

Well, it was a deal gone bad.. Last Dark Stone at the dealership. Was going to go across state to get this color.. turns out some guy lost his financing and had to bring it back the same day i was going to buy.

Wasn't going to take it, but they made it worth it.. so I did.

I always thought break-in was first few thousand...so I guess I don't really need to worry then. Any habits I should avoid for a while anyway?

Totally agree!! Have done this with every vehicle I've ever purchased and put between 100K to 150K on every one with no driveline problems (engine, trans or rearend) Congrats on your new ride!

yeh i hear that your supposed to run it hard.....if you want a strong motor run it hard in the beginning....makes the rings seat really nice....makes your oil last longer....can give you better gas milliage....and can give you up to a 10% increase in power over a babied engine from what i hear....thats why some of the people in this forum have trucks that vary in performance and gas milliage...some of them were broken in different....when i get one im gonna run the **** out of that motor(reasonably) and have me a nice strong efficient motor.....i broke my explorer in that way and it feels freakish....i remember i went out of state and i rented an explorer of the same year with the same driveline and it felt like a dog....and try and stay away from full synthetic until about 10,000 to 20,000 miles
