Angry 05 vs. 04 throttle response

There is no comparison. My dad just got an 05 XLT (dark stone) with the 5.4l so I went down to check it out last night. Took it for a test drive and it was light year's different. You touch the accelerator in the 05 and it jumps. Mine (04 Lariat w/ 5.4l) you sit there for .X seconds on the accelerator and it will finally do something. Very noticeable difference though. My truck was in to the dealer yesterday for the brakes, brand new rotors at 18k, and I talked to them about rough idle. They said that I had the latest and greatest PCM flash (which I had done after complaining about poor throttle response). If they can make the 05's respond so well, why not the 04's?

There are a few things involved in the improvement of the '05's. One of which is the motor on the throttle body was redesigned to respond faster to the signals from the PCM.

Sounds too me like you didn't get that " latest and greatest reflash " you
should tell 'em to reflash it again or just do a search and get yourself a chip.
I know the guys and gals on this site who have chipped out their rigs are
talking it up about the new throttle response ..

vroom vroom ..

I believe them that I have the latest flash. It was noticeably improved after I got it, but still nowhere near what i felt in the 05. I'm kicking around getting the xcal2. I was more curious as to why the baseline in the 05 -> 04 was not the same. Sounds like from Tbird69 that it is mechanical/electrical as well as computer related.

I was wondering about that myself, since so many guys have been complaining about the throttle response on these trucks.

So far with my '05 (5.4 Regular Cab XLT) I have been very pleased with the throttle response -- now the shift points are a different story!

Ford heard from ALOT of '04 owners about the *****ty throttle response, and did some retooling for '05. Mine wasn't that bad although the reflash did make it better, especially the shift points.

I have the 05 f150 4x4 Lariat,Build date of 01/05.The throttle response is so poor it will not even spin the tires on grass-and yes it has the 5.4. CEL is on with code po455-evap leak,I cleared it and it came back on after 500 miles-just turned over to 1400 miles.Did take it to dealer and they replaced something and said light would probably come on-waiting on instrument cluster to come in before I take it back.Anybody else have this bad of performance? I need help!!!

Im calling BS or there is something REALLY wrong with your truck. My truck spins the tires in grass so easy and thats not a problem with the throttle lag at all.

I also have a 4.6, and have no trouble spinning tires on dirt or grass.

I assure you it is not bs,This thing wont even break loose flooring it around a corner in the rain,And it is not my first truck-traded a 4x4 Tundra in on this-it had very good power-before that I had a 95 and 97 chevy ZR2 with 4.3 v6 and they had good power.Even had a couple of guys I work with drive it-They agree it is a dog.I dont see how an evap leak could affect the performance-but you do smell alot of gas fumes for first 30 miles after fill-up.It is deffinantly going back in the shop Monday. If anybody has any insight please advise.

Had my 05 Lariat screw ( build 01/05 ) reflashed 3 weeks ago for hard 1-2 upshift. Had very slight throttle lag before ( only when you eased into throttle after your already moving along, if you nail it, no lag ) and still does that now. Reflash solved the trans shift problems nicely though. 5k-5200 rpm shifts now, tires break loose from a stop when you stomp on it, definately feel the difference in mid range power, and it holds the gear longer before upshifting. Truck performed well before reflash except for the trans shift problem, ( would 'chirp' tires tires off the line ) Was looking to throw an xcal2 tune on since I put borla catbacks on her but am quite pleased with performance now. ( especially now with 93 octane gas prices !! ) Ordering Airraid intake instead and going for 285x65x18 bfg all terrains-ko's...

I traded an 04 FX4 SCAB ( build 04/04 ) for the 05 screw, couldn't stand getting 3 kids in and out of back with those doors ! I thought it actually performed slightly better than the 05, maybe because it was a scab and is lighter.

Im with ya thumper...bs...

I punched my truck from a stop sign yester day in a slight sprinkle..just that the road was damp and the tires broke loose.....well i was giggling how it turned out...It tacked out at 5 grand shifted to 2nd tacked out again at 5 grand all while still spinning the tires and speedo showing about 70 mph and caught 3rd for a bit and stopped spinning...and they spun for a half a block up hill. I was amazed how they woudlnt stop spinning as long as she kept above 4000 rpm. Did i ever get some pedestrians lookin at me haha.
