Window grease - 04 procrastinators, heads up

Had the front window grease problem since delivery in sept 03, figured I'd get around to taking it in to the dealer sooner or later before 36k miles. Kept waiting for shimmys, whines, shudders, all the other stuff to occur so I could get it done all at once, but alas, my truck is one of those good 'uns - no other probs. Got deployed out of state at 32K, went past 36K and didnt want to take it to an out of state dealer, figured I would wait to get home - at least I have the 100K ESP premium Care.

Took it in to Leif Johnson Ford here in Austin at 38K, found out ESP doesnt cover this problem. Thanks to those good folks, they arranged with the Ford rep to fix it at no cost. Saved me $198. Bottom line - your window grease problem is not covered under ESP. Get it fixed while in the factory warranty or trust you dealer is as cool as mine!

That's an old one. Part of the cable system for the electric windows would rub against the glass. It had a piece of tape or something on it that had a greasy or tar like substance on it. It smeared on the glass. Had mine fixed early by the dealer under warranty. If you had it repaired before 36k, it probably would have been under warranty.
My understanding it was only on the early production trucks.

Your right Kingfish - it was on early production units, it definately IS covered under factory warranty.. and is definately NOT covered under extended service plans

The fix on my truck was to take off the door panel, pull up the inner plastic coating (from the bottom seems to be easiest), and tie wrap the cable to the door structure so it doesn't rub the glass. Has to be done both sides.

PS - Pulling up the inner plastic is a B!!TCH. You have to cut the glue with a razor and if iy drops back into contact with itself, it resticks, just not as bad. Reseals itself when you close it back up.
