Looks really good. I've been wanting to do this, too.

Just for my info, all you need is some shorter U bolts, right?

Anyone have the FoMoCo p/n? Or are these redily available from guys with lifted 2WD's?

Thanks.

All you need is the 2WD U-bolts, everything else is reused, once your blocks are out. Stick an ad on the wanted accessories classified. Not sure the part numbers. Good luck!

I have emailed FPN and will be getting the part number posted up here tommorow for 2WD U bolts with price. I have a question on the centering pins though........I went out and looked at mine and do those pins not go through the springs and then down through the block??? I looks like when I take the block out, the pins will then be wayyyy too long and be sticking into the axle.........Please fill me in on this because I was trying to get FPN to find those pins and they said they come with the leaf spring assembly. And No that truck doens't look like a 2WD. It is still higher all around than a 2WD, it just sits level now. I like this idea better anyway and not having to get an alignment is another plus. I just use my 4WD if in snows or I wanna pull a chevy out of a ditch, and I don't need that 2" higher ground clearance in the front. I don't understand why some people get mad when (god forbid) you ever lower a 4WD even an inch or 2.

It's no different than someone lifting a 2WD. Lift a 2WD, lower a 4WD, lift a 4WD, lower a 2WD, who cares! Everyone has opinions, which is good, and contributes to what makes this site so great, but at the end of day, it's your money. Now go have fun! With that said Matt, honestly, I do not know the pin situation entirely, this is why Bill and I were safe, and swapped them. Unfortunately, since we were shipping simultaneously, no comparison was possible. Your logic makes perfect sense though. The pins do go through the blocks. The pins I got from Bill's 4X2 are actually bolts, in case you didn't know. The mounting plate on the top of the axle where the leaf springs would rest (after your blocks are removed) has two holes. The heads of the pins (bolts) rests inside these holes. The threaded portions of the pins go straight up through the leaf springs. On top of the leaf springs is a mounting plate to which the rest of the threaded portion of the pins will finally go through. At this point, you would put the nuts on and tighten up. Lastly, the U-Bolts and associated hardware go on last. With this scenario, the pins would seem long, but again not sure! One option is you could go to the local Ford dealer parts counter and have them pull up a microfiche on it and see if there is a measureable difference or even a difference in part numbers. Let me know if I can help any further. Hope all this made sense!!

I apologize for giving (possibly) misinformation, absolutely you need the shorter U-Bolts, but I'm not sure if the Centering pins (bolts) that go through the leaf springs are different between 4x2 and 4x4.

Ok, got a reply (dang they are fast!) and part number for a 2WD U bolt with base payload options is 4L3Z5705FA and price is listed as $8.29 each. So basically $40 for all 4 with shipping probably. Yikes! When you took the centering pins out of your 4WD, were they long and threaded all the way down? I bet I can just use the same ones and there would be a little bit more thread sticking up over the leaf but that would be ok. I might just take mine apart to do some research.

Man, I wish I remembered. I boxed em up pretty quick. I am pretty sure, though I hate to guess, that they were not threaded all the way down. 40 bucks is about what i paid in shipping to do the swap with another member.

Matt,
If you do take yours apart, please snap some pics. I'm interested in the outcome.

Thanks,

I'm betting the pin/bolt in the spring fits into a hole in the 2" block, and the block has its own pin that fits in the axle. When you take out the block, the pin/bolt in the spring slips right into the hole in the axle. This is how it was on my Z71 that I lowered. I'm doing my FX4 tomorrow when my ubolts come in. I'll let you know for sure if you want me to.

Does anybody have any pictures from underneath of before and after removing the blocks? I'd like to see exactly what and how it was done.
