Power Source For LED's

Hey, im had some LED's put in my A-pillers today, and the shop instaling them cant seem to find a place to tap into that is hot when the ignition is off. in other words, when i turn off the truck i need a wire that is hot, but not hot when the truck is running. Any suggestions would be great, as im kinda bummed with 4 holes in my a piller's and 4 little led's that dont work ha.

Thanx
Josh

A fuse tap would be easiest. Also, the cigarette lighters run 12V even without the key.

He is wanting power with the truck off, and NO power with the ignition on.

You will beed a bosch type relay with all 5 pins, wire the coil to power with the ignition on, ground the other side. Run power all the time to the common terminal, and then your leds to the 'normally closed' terminal. That way, the relay will pass the power when it is in the resting position (off). when the ignition is turned on in the truck , the relay coil is energized, and the contacts will move away from the NC terminal therefore killing power to the leds.

(note: a 'shop' doing this install without the knowledge on their own of how to do this with a relay would make me a little worried about their competency)

You could do that or just tap it into the PATS Wire located at the top of the dash so they blink, OG/RD wire.

asinatra, do you know for sure if you can tap into that LED pats light, my install shop was affraid to do it because he thought it would mess up the pats system. but if not that would be the simplest way to go. thanx for the help.
