gas mileage question
I just bought a 05 lariat screw and am getting only like 14.3 miles per gallon. I have the the 5.4 engine and the 3.73 gears. Of the 2500 miles on teh truck about half are highway and half are city. I dont beat on the truck at all. Just normal acceleration and speed. I also have put a K&N replacement air filter and a tonneau cover on it. They did help but not much. So my question to u guys is if this is normal or do i have a problem. The only reason i think there might be a problem is that other guys ive talked to are at least getting 15 and they dont have a cover or K&N. i havent talked to the dealer yet thinking it will get better but it hasnt
Any thoughts or suggestions u guys have to get more mpg would be great.

If it is a 4 x 2, then it is a little lower than I get. I have the 5.4, 3.55, Screw, 4 x 2 and get 16.6 around town and 18 mixed on the highway. I don't drive slowly, 75 to 80 on the highway. I do not drive to get mileage, I could get better, I'm sure. I have the K & N filter, Flowmaster but I doubt either one helped on the mileage much. I keep all records on gas purchases and have averaged 16.75 over 10,354 miles. Nearly all of it around the Fort Worth/Dallas area.

2005 4X4 Screw w/ 3.73LS 5.4 1400 miles. I get 14.9 - 15.1 MPG average, about 50/50 city/highway.
I avoid fast starts. I floored it to merge with traffic and I lost .2 MPG and it took about 60 miles to make it back up to 15 MPG.
I've got the line-x spay in which adds a little weight. I have a roll-n-lock on order. After it's installed I'm curious to see if my milage improves due to the better aerodynamics.

Not to be a jerk, but if you were very concerned about gas mileage, you should have read these posts BEFORE you bought the truck, this topic gets kicked around alot. Some answers I have got in the past are; don't drive as much, put it in neutral and coast down hills, etc, etc. It's painful, I put $47 in Saturday for 3/4 of a tank. Best of luck with your new ride.
