Double DIN question

How well do the Double DIN aftermarket HU's fit? I have an '05 XLT and was thinking of purchasing an aftermarket stereo. I would like to have one that fit perfectly in the stock hole and was wondering if anyone had purchased one that fit perfectly or knew of any that would. I was looking at a sweet looking Pioneer unit the other day but it was just a smidge small for the hole and I don't want it to look "un-natural".

thanks

In either case, you will need an installation kit. Even for the dual din. I think they fit just great and I have the same exlipse unit as above.

I've got the Metra 99-5807 kit, paid about $35-$40 with the wiring harness.

ThumperMX113, how much was your alarm with remote start?

I have the same alarm/remote start as thumper.. and i paid 500 installed. I believe Thumper got his installed with the eclipse unit... so the install was combined... so.. he doesnt know exactly what it cost him. You can buy the unit at Circut city for 499 installed i believe... but they will charge you another 50 for the PATS bypass. As for the double dins... Most ive seen with a standard install fit very well and look awesome from straight on... but they usually stick out a quarter inch or so... which makes it look a little less "factory".. Most of them however have flip down faces that arent designed to sit flush... so they usually have to stick out a bit.

The Eclipse that thumper has is the one i really want!!! It is awesome.

After messing around with the radio mount, at least with the eclipse, you can tweak is so its 100% flush. It doesnt get in the way of the slide down screen. A straight forward install would lead you to believe that you cant flush mount it, but you can, easily.

I got the alarm for $400 but installation is normally $100 but since I bought the headunit they didn't charge me installation on any of the stuff.

I did the installation myself, and found it to be VERY easy. It took me an hour at the most and part of that was messing around with it once I got got it working. Simply get that Metra kit and bolt it to the radio so that it is nice and flush, then get a SCOSCHE #FD23B 2004+ Ford headunit wiring kit and wire the unit up to the connector. Then take the front piece of the dash off (pops off) and pull out the old radio and bolt the new one in place and connect it to your factory harness. The only things I did that require a little bit of preparation were looking up some of the wiring diagrams on this site and some others, and I just grounded the parking brake wiring harness so the video works all the time. I have installed a few headunits here and there and that experience comes in handy but I think anyone could do it with a little research and maybe a buddy to help that knows some stuff about that.

I dont have any pictures but its fairly easy to explain.
Basically, I did not attach the head to the kit frame. I mounted the head unit into the compartment using metal brackets found at a hardware store. This gave me the flexibility to move/slide the unit forward ot backward using the threads in the side of the head unit and screws that fit inside them. Once set in place, I tightened it down and centered it. From there The kit frame was centered in place and also screwed in place.

That head unit is f'n sweet. I went onto Kenwood's website and it's kinda 'spensive, but if I recall, didn't you get that one off of Ebay for a decent price??? If I ever replace my stock crappy single cd radio with an aftermarket...it will be that one for sure.
