"Norfolk Clunk"
"Norfolk Clunk"
Has anyone heard of the "norfolk clunk"? I heard it mentioned in a post some time ago. It was said that trucks built in Norfolk, Va. have a clunk on acceleration. At the time mine didn't have it but now I notice a clunk coming from the right front of the vehicle at around 25mph when accelerating It only does it once in awhile.
mine is from Norfolk 03, the only clunk i have is an occasional tranny "slippage" clunk. It does not happen very often, but when it does it usually happens when I accelerate and the tranny down shifts from either 2nd to 1st or 3rd to 2nd?????? 24,000 miles and no other tranny problems so far.

I've got the driveline/ slip yoke clunk, and yes, the truck is from Norfolk. It's still the smoothest vehicle I've ever owned...my other vehicle (1997 Jeep Wrangler) clunks and bangs and shakes like a paint mixer. Man, I love that Jeep!
Norfolk here and I have that same driveline clunk on initial take off from a stoplight........but it doesn't bother me at all. Untill the driveshaft falls out on the ground, I'll live with it.

I've got the clunk. Only heard it a couple times in almost 30kmiles. Was wondering what it was though. I figured it would be impossible to try and duplicate at the dealer...so I wrote it off.
05 f150 driveline clunk
I have a 05 f150 fx4 with the driveline clunk from take off. The 1st time i brought it to the dealer they replaced the fluid in the rearend with a teflon based fluid. That didnt fix the problem. I just brought it back and now they say they have to order a shim kit to realine the rearend. So we will see if this fix's the problem.

Make sure they hear it before they start fixing ***** that aint broke. If its the clunk in the rear when taking off from a stop, more like a bang then its most likely the slip yoke. Theres a TSB on that. It needs to be lubed up. If its a shudder in the rear when taking off, then its in the gears and shims. I would just hate to see them try to fix the wrong thing and then you end up having other problems you didnt have before. Good luck..Just make sure they can duplicate the "clunk" before they rip it appart.
