Question Backspacing?

What amount of backspacing do we need on aftermarket rims to comfortably fit 35x12.5x17 on a 10" wide rim?

My wheels are 9" wide and I have 5 1/2" backspacing.

Really depends on the lift. Rancho says no more than 6, and some slight trimming could be required to avoid rubbing under hard off-roading. Pro Comp and Fabtech say no more than 5 (I think; you can look at their web site) and I think Skyjacker wants 4.5. Some tested with 9 inch rims and not 10. Also, you can search the first thread in this forum to see what folks are running on their lifts. Good luck.

Do you think I'd be okay with a Fabtech lift and 5 1/2" backspacing on a 9" wide rim? If not I'll have to figure out a way to get the Fabtech dual steering stabilizers on the Rancho lift.

Ask Fabtech. I thought you were going Rancho. Must change your mind as much as I do. Pros and cons to each.

I hear about this all the time but what in the heck is backspacing, forgive my arrogance.

Backspacing is the measurement from the mounting surface of the wheel (where it bolts to the truck) to it's rear lip. Less backspacing makes the wheel stick out more. More backspacing makes it tuck in more. The backspacing on the OEM 04-06 F-150 wheels is 5 1/2 inches. The backspacing on this wheel is 4 1/2 inches.

All I have right now is the 2.5" Leveling Kit. I have BFG 285/70/17 on my stock rims, and want to put those on 17x9 rims. After those wear off, I was thinking about going 35x12.5x17 on those same 17x9 rims. Everything I assume will fit ok, right? Will there need to be trimming when going to the 35's?

I am obviously somewhat lost when it comes to tires/rims/specifications.

Thanks

I believe the 285's will fit fine with the 17x9's, but the 35's will be really tight. A lot depends on the wheels backspacing.

Perfect explanation wandell, I love the look when they stick out a couple inches, was wondering how to go about that. I knew there was a reason I liked you
