2004 Fuel Door

Has anyone experienced a broken fuel door or am I the only idiot to break one?

I was washing my truck and wanted to hose out the fuel door area, opened door, hosed, and it wouldn't stay shut. After further inspection, no broken parts visible.

The broken part is hidden. In the photo, you see the white nylon shaft that the spring is attached to. There are notches on this shaft, that matches the notches in the plastic hinge. The notches in the hinge strips out, allowing the fuel door to flop open.

Go to the top of this thread and click on search. WHen the window drops down type in pertinent keywords..."broken fuel door" for example, and the related threads will pop up.

It Happened to me

I was putting gas, and when I was done I closed the fuel door and It never closed. So I took It to ford under warranty. When they were done I asked them what was wrong with It and they couldn't give me an answer exept It was faulty.
