Tsb 4-21-14...

...isn't available for me! That's what a tech said at my local dealership. I am going in on Wednesday to get my 3,000 mile scheduled maintenance (oil change + tire rotation). I also asked him to re-flash me, and he said it is available on 5.4s only - not the puny 4.2s such as myself.

Is this true?

If it is, how can I fix my throttle lag issue? Am I SOL?

If it can in fact be done, he has another thing comin'.

You shouldnt have throttle lag toddzilla, the 4.2's have a regular throttle cable and not the dreaded throttle by wire.

So, can you verify this Qunitin?

Am I SOL with my 4.2?

I know, I have already contacted Mike and he said he tunes plenty of 4.2s, so that may be my only route.

I was just wondering if I am SOL in regards to TSB 4-21-14 or not.

I have a copy of TSB 04-24-14. It does not cure anything that may be wrong with your vehicle.

It is instructions on how to reprogram or replace PCM's. It has no new programs in it.

It covers various Ford vehicles from 1997 through 2005

Calibrations for the 4.2 aren't as critical as they are for the 4.6/5.4, since the 4.2 still uses a mechanical throttle cable (I think?). Like Newt said, 4-24-14 just outlines general PCM reprogramming procedures and tips.

Do you have any slack in your throttle cable? Maybe removing the slack, if it exists, would help you out some.

I'm I understanding correctly. There is a way to correct the throttle lag on the new 5.4. If so, can anyone tell me how. I just got this puppy bout 1 week ago and noticed the lag right away.

Have the PCM flashed at the dealership.

Quinton, I asked the dealer for the 4-24-14, they started the reflash as he called it and the computer locked up. he said my truck's computer was cleared and it locked in the reload, thus my truck would not start. I had to take a loaner overnight and they got it fixed the next day. My question is, if the 4-24-14 is not a reprogamming why did it clear my computer. Or could it be they performed the later reflash that had an 05 number? Just curious what your thoughts are. I know whatever they did really woke my truk up and I am very pleased with its performance now.

4-24-05 is just a general outline as to what to do to ensure accurate, troublefree PCM reprograms. The calibration data itself is stored on Ford's WDS or PDS scan tools, the former of which can lock up if you look at it the wrong way. WDS can be kinda sketchy at times. If it locks up in the middle of a recalibration, the data may be lost, at which point the PCM will have to be manually reconfigured using what Ford calls "As Built" data, the information that was originally used to configure the module in question. Then once that's taken care of, the latest calibration is normally uploaded with WDS or PDS.
