2005 Bestseller...So Far
Hear are the two bestsellers so far with the total sales figures for the first six months of 2005, based on data published by Automotive New:
1. Ford F-Series
407,754
2. Chevrolet Silverado
384,228
WTF they are wright on our heels, if you already own an F-150 go buy another one, if you debating on weather to buy one, go buy it. And do whatever you can to convince other people to buy one.

Those numbers are only thru June. Numbers thru July are:
F series - 534,659
Silverado - 480,134
Ford gained a little in July.

FYI
Straight from the horse's mouth
GM really gained in June with the Silverado when they did the Employee purchase program. They actually outsold Ford trucks in June for the first time in "forever." But when Ford matched the deals their sales shot up for July. Imagine what $1.29 gas would do for truck sales. Ah we can only dream......

sounds fair to me

the f150 is basically 1 truck, 250-350-450-550 is basically 1 truck, and 650-750 another truck, just all different weight classes within.
just like the chevy 1500 is basically 1 truck, the 2500 and 3500 another, and 2500HD and 3500HD another, just all different weight classes within
no giant gaping niche in either of their lineups that the competitor doesnt have a match for. ford just splits up their weight classes a bit more.

You can thank the "Employee Discount" sales drive for the record numbers. One thing to consider is sales to fleet users such as rental companies and the US Gov count in these "total vehicles sold" numbers. The USAF, for example, could care less what kind of truck they get as long as they make it around the flight line with out dying. The US Gov "spreads the wealth" among the 3 US truck makes so there will always be Ford, Chevy & Dodge on any military base. I don't think these sales should be counted, but that's only my opinion. Rental fleets are brand loyal. They may or may not like the product, but they always buy the same thing. Most fleet customers like contractors and such will buy from the same dealer over and over simply because they will get huge discounts. If you own Joe's plumbing and you've leased 10 trucks from the same dealer, every 2 years for 15 years, you can bet you're going to get taken care of at that dealer. Again, I don't think these numbers should coun't. Since it would be nearly impossible to calculate who uses their truck for personal use and who doesn't, the companies just use total units moved as their total. That's why every year for 28 years, the F-150 is the best selling vehicle in the world. One interesting point, if you add the numbers from GMC trucks (which for all intents & purposes are the same trucks as Chevy's) you will see that GM has actually OUTSOLD Ford for many of the years that Ford has claimed being the #1 seller. Probably true this year due to the Employee Discounts but I don't know where to find the numbers.
