Warranty issues?

Was wondering if anyone knew of or has had any problems themselves with having a dealership attempt to or actually refuse to cover some warranty work because of an aftermarket installation.

I am going to get satellite radio and was curious if this was something i should consider.

Thanks for any info.

When I got my truck an 04 Screw XLT, my dad was thinkin of puttin a leveling kit on his 01 Screw XLT. So was I. So I went to the dealer and asked them if they would cover it, and they told me their not supposed, but they will anyways. They even told me That I could put a 6in lift with any bolt-ons, and they will still work on my truck under warranty. I asked them how is that possible, they told me that when somebody comes in under warranty, they send in the warranty and problem with the vehicle information to the main Ford company and they will send back the information step by step on how to fix it. So they told me that if I have a problem with the vehicle they will send the information to the Ford company without the alterations. So if in the future they void your warranty try to explain to them on what i have just said. I HOPE that works.

MAGNUSON MOSS WARRANTY ACT, US Code - Title 15, Chapter 50, Sections 2301-2312

Legally, a vehicle manufacturer cannot void the warranty on a vehicle due to an aftermarket part unless they can prove that the aftermarket part caused or contributed to the failure in the vehicle (per the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act (15 U.S.C. 2302©) . For best results, consider working with performance-oriented dealerships with a proven history of working with customers. If your vehicle manufacturer fails to honor emission/warranty claims, contact EPA at (202) 260-2080 or http://www.epa.gov. If federal warranty protection is denied, contact the FTC at (202) 326-3128 or http://www.ftc.gov

I have always replaced my stock audio equipment. I have never had a problem with warranty.

I would suggest using adapters instead of cutting wire though. In the event of a major electrical catastrophe you would be able to easily swap in the stock equipment.

If your a moron like me then you would pinch the antenna wire causing the control unit to short out and start smoking. Im guessing worst case it could fry something in the vehicle electrics.

I have also heard of people not routing the wiring out of the vehicle correctly and causing water leaks. That could possibly cause some problems.
