285/70/17 or 33x12.5 on 4x2?

Hey guys, I have a 2005 F150 4x2 and I'm going to have the Autospring 2.5 inch
leveling kit put on it soon. I haven't decided on wheels yet (probably Eagle Alloy 102s or 178s or something like those) and I was wondering if I could fit 33x12.5 inch tires on it without rubbing. The reason I ask is because my truck is a 4x2 and I want to make sure that the tire is not too wide. If it was I would go with the 285s, which are 33x11.5 inches give or take. Thanks for your help!

i think you mean 295/70/17. i dont believe theres a 285/70/17. i have a 3" lift on my 4x2 and had the 33" 295/70/17 Terra Grapplers and they fit fine. they would fit fine with a 2.5" spacer also

BFG, and Toyo both make 285/70-17's. I think either will work fine. The 285's will be a better fit for the OEM 17x7.5 inch wheels.

Id say go with the 285's personally or just go up to a 35 (315/70/17) if you want it that wide and there are people with 35's on a leveled 4X2. And as a side note.... are you set on on the Eagle Alloy's? I only ask because working at Discount Tire we have more problems with those than any other rim.

KaNigIt, thanks for the warning! I'm trying to find some somewhat economical wheels that still look good. It's hard to do with a 17 inch rim! I figure I will go with the 285s just to assure that there will not be any rubbing of any kind. Also, could you do me a favor? There's a guy on here (posts as Higdogg) who wants to know what a Flowmaster Super 40 sounds like. If you could describe how yours sounds inside and outside, what the drone is like and at what RPMs, and if you noticed any performance difference that would be great! Thanks for your post.

Personally I love my Flowmaster. Some people talk about it being to loud and such but I dont really think so, yet that may be partly because I am in fact a whipper snapper. Inside depending on your definition of "drone" then there may be one. Idling sounds perfect IMO, not loud enough to worry about waking the neighbors but its soft and deep outside and slightly noticeable inside. Lower rpms are also soft but very deep both inside and out. At mid range rpms is when you can hear a pretty good exhuast note from inside the cab but to me I wouldnt say its loud to enough to call a drone and outside it sounds awesome, loud enough that you know its there without people thinking you lost your muffler.... At higher rpms youll probably hear more engine noise inside the cab than exhuast and outside some may call it "airy" but i dont think thats neccessarily the best description, to me its still deeper its just not as resonate than at lower rpms. As far as performance, not much HP gains if any of course but there was in fact a very noticeable increase in gad mileage, about 2 mpg more from my calculations! Anyways hopes this helps and I wasnt exactly sure where you wanted me to post so I figured this worked.

I'm running ProComp A/T 33 x 12.50 x 17 with a leveling kit and no tire rub at all. IMHO this is the perfect size tire for our trucks doesn't rob the power and looks great.

P.S. I agree on the Eagle Alloys. Had them on first and never could get rid of the steering wheel shimmy so i ponied up the extra $$$ and went with Weld, no more shimmy

I have had my BFG AT KO 315 70 17's on for about a week now and love them. All I have is 2.5 inch autospring with stock rims and I cannot detect any rubbing. You will be fine.
