20" wheels with 35" tires??

I know the whole wheel and tire thing has been beat to death... But, Im going crazy looking at everything in the search.

Here is what i want... I want to get some MB Motoring 20x8.5 Wheels... And i want to put on a set of 35" tires...

This is where it gets a bit tricky... I could go with nitto 325/60R20 Terra Grappler's... But they mesure out at 35.5"

SO then i was thinking mud grapplers... Nitto Mud Grappler 35x12.5-20 Might be kinda loud... but would look sweet... also costs some more.

I know that there are a number of guys running 35" tires on 18" rims with leveling kits only... But, I havent seen anyone running them on 20" rims.

So, I am wondering if i could go with the 20" wheel and 35" tire combo on the leveling kit only... or if i should go with the 3" lift by skyjacker.

Here are the rims I am looking at

I definately want black wheels... And these are one of the best options i have seen... What do you all think? I think they will look bad A$$ with some mud grapplers!!

I would go with the 3" skyjacker, I have a leveling kit and 20's and 305-55-20 toyo open country's.. It looks good but I am wanting some 35s... I think I would have to go with another wheel or 18's to fit 35's due to the back spacing on my wheels... Good luck

I just got my truck done with 20” rims and 35” tires. It looks awesome and just in the first day I have had so many comments. I did get a 6” Fabtech lift though. I will post photos tomorrow or tonight. There was no power loss and breaking was only slightly different. I am very happy with the result. My truck is a 2005 Lariat 4X4 SuperCrew.

I was thinking 18s also but they did not have stock in the rims I wanted in 18” so I went with 20s and I am so glad I did. You know the 2006s are going to have 20s. When you see the photos you might change your mind. I am not into the huge rim, small sidewall look but on a 35 it looks good!!! I saw a SuperCab getting the same lift with 37s and it did not look any different but with 37s they suggest you change gears and your overdrive gets messed up. I will shoot some pics tonight and load them up. The day before I got the lift a guy at work asked if my truck was a 4X4, now after the lift no one has to ask. Best money I ever spent.

I look foreward to seeing those pictures, I havent seen any 2004-05 150's with the 20" wheel 35" tire combo... only the 20" wheel with 33" or smaller tires. I have also seen a picture of one with 20" wheels and 37" tires... and it looked awesome. but, for the same reasons as you I don't want to go 37's.

I think I want to get the 3" skyjacker with the rims pictured and nitto 35" Mud grappler's. No one has a setup exactly like this... but i am pretty sure it will fit. I dont see any reason the 20" 35 tire would not fit. But, im not exactly sure about the backspacing on the MB motoring wheels i am looking at. I know a few guys have had good results with the 18" MB motoring wheels and 35" tires with only a leveling kit. I cant find any info on the backspacing of the 20" wheels im looking at. But, my assumption is that they are the same as MB motoring's 18in wheels.

any comments on those wheels?? I guess alot of people dont like black rims... but i love them.

The truck getting the same lift with the 37s looked the same. You could not even tell the difference between the tires when the trucks were next to each other unless you measured. I was worried I was going to want the 37s but I am very glad I did not get the 37s.

Personally I can tell a big difference in looks but to each his own.

Steve, what kind of gas mileage are you getting after the lift?

Well maybe it was the tire. I was looking at the same tire as mine but a 37 parked next to me and even the guy at the shop could not tell they were different until he looked at the side wall to see what size they were. No one at the shop could tell the difference between the two and they were only 4 feet apart.

Thumper. Did you get your truck back? How is it?

My gas milage was low since I got it (low 12s) now if is sticking at 11.8 but I have not been doing any highway today. I am riding tomorrow and will be heading out on the highway for a while so lets see if it changes. It is better than my last F150. It was getting 10.

KiCk *** FX4,

The difference is that if you do the 37s it is recommended that you regear and your overdrive won't work very well, or at least that is what I was told. The price difference was not enough for me to not get 37s.

I think that if you go with 37s you need to get gears... thats the big price diffrence... and it doesnt look much diffrent as others have said.

Steves - Nice, thanks for the pictures.
