Budget E-fans

Hey guys, ive decided to share this with you just as an FYI. I did some research and found a seller on ebay who had some 14 inch, 11 amp, 2500 CFM S blade efans for pretty cheap. My friend and i were wanting to do the efans so I emailed him and asked for a price on 4 of the fans shipped. came to $147 for 4 fans. so im at $75 now. Went to autozone, pickup up a hayden/torqflo adjustable thermostat dual fan kit for $35, and 2 sets of through core zip strips for $15. I admit the ZIP strips are not the best method, but the fans are light and they are pretty solid so im not too concerned about it now. A few hours later and here is what ive got

To my suprise the fans are VERY quiet, you have to turn the radio off and stick your head outside to hear them at idle. The wiring kit came with an AC circuit, but i just made that circuit into a manual override that has a switch in the cab. Heres why. The fans are only really needed for the AC at idle, since at any speed, the wind coming through the grill will be much more than the fans anyway. Even then, the fans only have to be overridden AT IDLE when the truck is NOT warmed up yet. At ANY other time, the temp of the rad at idle would be high enough to trip the fans on their own. The main reason i did all this is because there is no reason for the fans to kick on when i turn the AC on going 80 down the highway.

As far as cooling, they perform very well, in fact im still adjusting the thermostat on the wiring to bring the temp BACK UP to how it was before, without my X2 im just going by the dummy gauge for now. very pleased wtih their performance

Ill admit that this is not the cleanest, most sophisticated, or best way to do this, but for $125 for ALL NEW parts and 5000 CFM, im happy

I am also working on a setup with these fans (thanks to SoundPer4mance helping me out). I ordered the fans last night but I have a different setup on the fan controller comming. I went through Mike at Mad Enterprises ( http://www.madenterprise.com/F150.htm ) and their fan controller if exactly what I was looking for. It has dual outputs for either 2 fans or a single 2-stage fan. It has 3 separate controls for the fans, 2 temp probes and one fixed value (205*F). This is the way it works, one stage is controlled by an adjustable switch and works off of the temp probe. You set it to turn on one of the fans at a set temp. The second stage works off of the fixed value and turns on the second fan when the temp sensor gets to the next level. The 3rd stage is the A/C control. Like SoundPer4mance said, he didn't want the fans comming on all the time for A/C and that's where this kit is perfect. The 2nd temp sensor is placed in the condenser and can be adjusted so that the first stage fan comes on and off depending on the temp of the condenser. So when condenser hot - 1 fan comes on, when engine hot - 1 fan comes on if not aleady on for A/C, and if engine really hot - 2 fans come on, and when you are rolling down the highway and condenser cool and engine cool - no fans come on. PERFECT setup I think!! I'll update with how great it works when I get it installed!

matt that sounds like a pretty cool controller, and even with that expensive controller youre still looking at under $200 smackers.

Good question, I know some of the Lighning guys have used the Motorcraft RF-86. Has anyone tried to install one in an 04-05?
