Anyone keep their stock tires but upgrade their wheels?

I'm debating between upgrading tires to a 285/65/18 BFG AT on the stock rims or I can go ahead and upgrade rims.

Question is, will the Mojave Teflon listed at 18/9.5 with 4.25" backspacing or the MB Motoring Razor 18/8.5" 25MM work with the stock 275/65/18 Goodyear AT's or am I looking at too wide of a wheels.

Here's a shot of stock tires on 18 x 8.5 rim w/6 inches of backspace.

I think they would be fine on a wider rim!

I put exactly those wheels on the stock 18" Lariat tires, looks fine w/level kit on front. Rides great but really can't sit still for long before going to 6" lift and 35's.

Thanks for the replies. I'm not sure what I'll do at this point. Like you said, I do intend on upgrading to the Fabtech 6" and 35's later. I'll let you know what I come up with. Thanks again for the pictures.

Look up your tire on the Tire Rack website. In the "specs", it will list the range of suitable rims widths.

It will work but IMHO you're going to run into wear problems with that setup in the long run. I bought a set of Hummer H2 wheels/tires for my last truck (GM 2500HD) and they match 315's to an 8.5" rim. Stock was 245's on a 6.5" rim. My new F150 came with 245's on the 7.5" rim so obviously there is some room for variance but you should try to keep it in perspective, if you ask me a 9.5" rim should have at least a 315 series tire on it. You shouldn't have any trouble with the stock tires on the 8.5" rim.
