ATC shut down all by itself???

The wife and I made a quick trip to the store right before lunch. Outside temp was in the low 90's. Temp on the ATC was set at 70 and all was well. We were in the store approximately 30-40 minutes. We loaded the bags into the back seat and as my wife was returning the cart, I jumped in and started the engine.

As soon as I fired her up, the ATC kicked the fan up to hyper-speed mode and then all of the sudden the system completely shut down just like someone had pushed the "off" button. I sat there with a puzzled look on my face for a few seconds, then reached over and hit the "auto" button and all appears to be well again.

Anyone have any similar experience and did it ever happen more than once? If so, is there a fix for it? (2004 F150 Super Crew Lariat)

Fortunately I have an appointment first thing in the morning to get the surging fan clutch replaced, so hopefully they car run the system through diagnostic test to see if there is a problem of some sort.

Yeah, some of them got bum EATC modules, if you pull the fuse for the EATC, stick it back in and it starts working, let it ride. If it croaks out again, you're supposed to replace the control head.

Do these EATC's leave some sort of error code for the tech's to see??

About two weeks ago mine acted like it was possessed. Up,down, totally random, lasted about 25 minutes, I shut the truck off & when I started it back up, everything was normal. Hasn't done it since.

I dunno....

Happened to mine every now and again. Took it to the dealer and it was replaced. New unit has done it also. Just very rarely. Maybe its a fuse or a short somewhere? If it keep it up itll be just another trip back to the dealership...

Later,

My EATC did the same thing once right after startup. So far, it hasn’t happened since.

Well, that was easy!! I just returned from the dealer. They installed the new fan clutch, and they ordered a new EATC module to be installed next week.

Thanks for the info guys
